Hey friends! I am having a heck of a time tracking down a bell housing (can't even get a solid answer on a part number) for my 1964 292 Yblock. The truck came with a smoking, leaking 223ci inline 6 with the 4speed manual (which works great) We got an awesome deal on a 292Yblock over the weekend (which has a 3 speed column bellhousing). Can anyone point me in the right direction on getting these two pieces to mate-up? Casting number? A good place to find 'em? Anything? Google has shown me just about everything but what I need to know. :-( Much appreciated in advance, my more experienced friends! -C
IIRC, there’s 2 truck bells, identified by the mounting ears for the rear mounts. One for a standard 3 speed, and 1 for the granny low 4 speed. I think there’s a difference in the front bearing opening in the bell, and maybe depth. Since they’re heavy, put your location in, maybe someone close has one. There might be a change in there somewhere for a clutch linkage change, but the particulars escape me now. 15 years ago when I lost my free storage I scrapped 3 or 4 of those, couldn’t give them away. Klutz (who’s sometimes here) over on the Ford Barn seems to have the numbers for damn near everything. McMasters would know, and so would Ted Eaton or John Mummert.
KLUTZ ... ??? GOD Will Get You For That Mikee ... The SERVICE PN you want is B8Y 7505-A (292 - T-98). This is from the 1957-63 TRUCK MPC. The PN also carriers over to 1964. No CASTING I.D. info Below is the APPLICATION CHART from the MPC and what model year trucks you need to search out. I may have a HOLLANDERS CROSSOVER PN for it. Will look tomorrow.
Post below describes using the TAAM-7505-B (CASTING ID NO.) on a 292 w/ T-5 conversion. Maybe it will help. Thread Here - https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1931-model-a-coupe-y-block-build-father-son.1004188/
Wow, thank you guys! I knew I should have posted on here first. I'm in Central Florida, about an hour North of Orlando (or an hour west of Daytona, if that helps). So, correct me if I'm wrong, but to mate my 292 Yblock to a T98 4 speed, I need a TAAM-7505-B? (this is what's so confusing...another guy said "I have one, it's a TCAL-7505B" and then another buddy sent me a pic of one that "should work" and it's a TAAA-7505A.) I know you guys are pro's, so I'll trust you. I just want to make sure I get the right one the first time (shipping is expensive!) Thanks again for all of your help! side note: I have a 3-speed bell, and an 223 inline six w/ a bell if anyone is interested.
You wouldn’t happen to still have the 3 speed bell for the 292 would you? I’m considering doing a swap in my truck but I don’t want to change the transmission.
The bell from the 223 will not bolt up to a y block, the TAAM bell will work for a 3 speed behind a y block in trucks. guess the reading/ comprehension skills are shot , reread his last post , carry on nothing to see here
Do you still have the 3 speed bell for the 292? I’m considering swapping my 223 for a 292 but want to keep the 3 speed.
Will an AJ-6394-C bell work on a 292 for a three speed column shifter? The listing says it’s for that exact purpose but I’d like to make sure.
Although this is about doing a T5 trans swap. There are some bellhousing numbers that might help you in finding one for the T98. I run one behind the bellhousing in the photo. But thinking about doing a T5 behind my 312 one day. http://www.ford-y-block.com/t5in-trucks.htm
