Some early photos of Los Angeles... Los Angeles was founded in 1781, but was not incorporated into a city until 1850. La Cienega Blvd. This was in the early 1920's. This oil rig was still pumping in the 1950's.. The Hollywood Hills is in the background. The iconic Hollywood sign was once Hollywoodland, put up by a real estate company to sell plots of land. A rain storm swept the "land" part of the sign away and was never replaced. The L.A. City hall, the tallest building in Los Angeles when it was built.
It was the tallest building in LA for many years because the city didn’t allow anything taller to be constructed.
