Awesome effort. Love the look. Love the chassis work. A very unique individual car. But then you fit a budget generic engine like every regular street rod. A little bit more effort and thought and you could have an engine that would be as amazing as the rest of the car.

  4. Still looks great. As for the wheel wells, I think it depends on how much you finish it. If you keep it raw it wouldn’t need them, if you “finish” it and paint it up then likely yes. You seem to go about this in a design/build kind of way and the results are terrific. Thanks for putting up with us and taking us for the ride. ps- in my world with that intake, the headers and a slip slide powerglide that would not be considered any kind of generic engine- full speed ahead.

  5. I would think wheel well panels would give it a more finished look; even if their lack was intended to expose unique chassis construction.

I have forgotten what Jim is running; but if you're offended by other's choice of running gear, Facebook would be a better choice of forum for you.

I appreciate the engine comment. The engine is far from done. I am hoping for a centrifugal supercharger and a magneto to bring it up to spec with the-rest of the car. Right now i have my hands full, just trying to get the body sorted out, and I am trying to keep to a very small budget, so patients is key in finding a good deal.

I like the addition of the wheelwells for sure. Oddly, adding more pieces to it makes it look far less pieced-together.

  9. Another vote for the wheel wells. Without the picture I would have gone the other way but they just look right in that pic.

Yea , i am keeping the wheel wells. I have changed the intake to a strip dominator, and today a friend offered me an older procharger. I really want an old mculloch, but i am on a budget and he offered it to me for a really good deal.

I really like how it is starting to look more like a real car. I thought this would be a good time to take a few pics in its current state, just for fun. Its turning out much better than i had hoped. Stoked!!!

Maybe make a roof insert that folds down when the roof is back and have a Vicky one day and a coupe the next.

love this build. Car is looking great. Glad your back on it.

Its hard to see but, this weekend I put 20 hours into picking and filing, welding and shaping, just to stand back and look at the same car when I was done. Oh well, the roof fits better, and I am slowly edging up on getting to the next step. Heres a few pics anyway, just to make me feel

Nice work as always Jim. Amazing how that hood looks like it came on that car, the upper and lower body lines specifically, which I'm guessing took a lot of work to make right. Impressive.

I got the hood to fit and welded up the little holes in the nose. I am really starting to like this car a lot. B8FB6D76-FB0B-48A0-A63D-A8B6735E072E.jpeg

This weekend I am hoping to have this round of metal work done and then its time to pull the body off and get the chassis running and driving. I have a problem. The car is very hard to steer when it is not moving. Does anyone know if I can lengthen the pitman arm, and give myself a little better leverage? I tealize that my setup is a little odd, but I am wondering if I can make it work. C5CF4BF7-FC00-450C-B5EB-C50C0C3A813F.jpeg

Only thing I can think of is a box with more mechanical advantage and the largest steering wheel practical

Lengthening the pitman arm will result in more effort & less turns lock - lock. You'll need to shorten it to reduce effort.

There is a tricked out 32 sedan with a similar setup...perhaps that's where your inspiration originated...I'll see if I can find it...perhaps it'll give some visual assistance...

How much air in your tires, maybe air them up a bit.

@JimSibley another consideration about steering effort is the ‘scrub radius’ of the front wheels.

Scrub radius is the path the tire takes when pivoting on the king pin (or ball joints in some cases).
You may be familiar with the concept, but for others I will try to describe it.

We begin by extending the center line of the king pin to the ground and marking that point. Then compare that point with the centerline of the tire where it contacts the ground. The closer the points are to one another, the easier it is to steer, especially when at rest or at very slow speeds. Conversely, the greater the distance between those points, the greater the effort required to steer the wheel/tire.

Changes to wheel offset are often not taken into consideration when chasing a certain ‘look’. However, those changes in wheel offset also can adversely affect wheel bearings, suspension bearings/bushing and steering linkage geometry.
