make sure to center the front wheels in the wheel opening, don't know how Ford managed to screw that up so bad... Hope it doesn't have an "off topic" front suspension on it....

It does have an OT suspension. There are some OT stuff with the truck, but it may be good trading fodder. Some of it will have to stay, but it's not a show truck. Just replacing my daily, trying to build something that makes me smile when I walk out to it.

  3. Im planning a similar type truck with my 54 F100 that my dad and I started on years ago. Low with Belly burners and maybe chrome running boards, muliple sets of wheels to fit what mood i might be in but leaning towards Steelies and 56 New Yorker hubcaps.

has anyone ever figured out a decent front bumper for these? that 3 sided channel they came with is not very attractive....

  5. I'll try to find a pic of it, but i made one for the front of a 56 F100 I sold before i finished out of two sliced up 67 Camaro rear bumpers. I filled the holes in the lower panel and put slots in it for the bumper irons welded to the back side of the bumper to go through to bolt to the frame. Made a nice tight slim bumper.

Not that I have seen. Nerf bars don’t look right, even though a few guys did it.

Agreed on the awkward front bumper, but not sure I have ever seen something that looked “right”. I sure wouldn’t mind having one of these as a daily. But, mine would likely look about like this.

    Congrats Chris!

I dug through all my little books last night and couldn't find the specific one I was looking for. I have another stash of mags I need to check tonight.

    Now you’re talking.

  14. Some inspiration from the old AMT 53 kit... Note, Chevy rear fenders.. also, I built this kit years ago, and I remember thinking the holes drilled in the stock bumpers are cool. You can see them in the parts pic on the side.

  15. Many years back I bobbed the frame rail ends back an inch and half, took a second front bumper and deleted the license plate setback and gave the ends the same treatment the rear bumper has on it. I also welded studs on it so I didn't have to bolt through the top flange of it. Not much work and it worked for me.

I like the top one Anthony. Any idea what it came from? Maybe an old Briz aftermarket?

The top one is ‘49 Plymouth

The front and rear have different curvature but are the same look with the ribs

    Very cool!!!

I have a set of bumpers off a 50 Dodge car that I saved years ago for long gone A.D. project. If the Ford front end is a bit more flat but they might be worth a try. Edit: these specifically are off a Coronet and should be real similar to the 49 Plymouth mentioned a few posts ago at least in shape and size.

We will not let @Roothawg put those terrible briz aluminum bumpers on his truck... the 49 plymouths on the other hand really kick ass

  27. Grabbed these Packard bumpers at the scrap yard

I guess the biggest issue with car bumpers is the arc is greater than the flat nose of most trucks

  28. A dumb question. The 48-52 F1 bumper had more detail and a better shape. Too narrow?
