  1. Holy crap, you're my hero. Dailying the B.B.S. is one thing but, selling the OT backup that's another level. I headed to the Building supply store this am in a truck with the seat heaters on and it wasn't Blue.

The shortcomings are presenting themselves. Wouldn't shift into reverse last night, had to turn the key off to shift. Called abut a T-5 today. I'm OK with debugging and breaking down on the weekend or after hours - not at 6:30 am heading to work. I have some rattles to exterminate and the headlight switch is causing intermittent dash lights. Have an exhaust leak that is making noise. The rear leaf spring shackle touches the bottom of the box. Leaf spring shims came in today.

  2. I like '41 Chevy's. They are are a great canvas for a custom. I love the reactions other people have to driving something old. Post up a pic when you have one.

As requested...as well as the other project that I haven't been able to work on due to the issues with the 41. Its a 55 Chevy 3600 2nd series.

  4. Holy smokes. Think I'm looking at the two best kept secrets on the HAMB. If they don't end up on a thread of their own of some nature, post your progress and wisdom here. I have a biological love for trucks but, your '41 has to shine, that thing is a stunner. Fantastic and thanks for posting!

What a great build, I love your young men being involved with you. I am looking at a 61 unibody that I sold to a guy 12 years ago, and he has just had it sitting since. He has lost the title, but I know how to fix that. Congrats on a great project, enjoy!

Thanks for the compliments Will. I have posted on the 41 in the past but not much. I think it was when I did the carpet and door panels. And maybe when I installed the inline 6 292 Chevy (bored and cammed, 4 barrel, duals) and a 88 Camaro world class T5. That's about all though. Some of the other stuff (independent front, disk brakes) is not really HAMB friendly. I doubt there will ever be a thread on it though. As you know its a lot of work to keep posting.
As for the truck, who knows. Maybe I'll do one. I've already done some stuff to it like rebuild the gauge panel, make a trasn cross member, and clean up the interior for paint. If you look at the picture you can see the Model A tudor behind it that I traded even for the truck. I had good intentions when I got it but after a couple of years it faded. I too have an affinity for trucks (and 59 Caddys, and tractors, and....!! :D:rolleyes: ). I love them all. LOL. Anyway, I don't want to clog up your post with my stuff!!

Well this can be attributed to how I approached this particular project. It was from the center out. The truck had sat for twenty years, and nothing was functional. I stripped it out to the bare shell and took a system by system approach. Everything has been rebuilt, replaced or touched in some way. Even the switches. As such there is a level of confidence that everything should work and have a certain level of reliability. Even so, a multi-hundred mile road trip is not gonna happen until some level of trust has been established.
On your deal, as you drive it, you will just have to work the bugs out as you go along.

  8. Thanks @sololobo. It's been a commitment and a learning experience for me and my kids. Frustrating and fun all in one. I would say between a trade for a Uni or keeping my own I'd keep but, it was the unibody that started my hunt for a truck. Get it and go for it.

  9. I joke this thread is the route towards finding my inner Hemmingway - two paragraphs at a time. Packaged right it's mildly entertaining for others but, it's for us so what the heck. The way the internet works, I get to look back at 2021-22 - my kids were seedlings when we started this. Now they're both taller than me - Crazy. I photo shoot around the OT stuff. I think almost any vehicle that has to keep up to modern traffic or daily chores has to divert from the 'Rule book' on some level. So long as these vehicles look the part I think the grading 'standard' makes allowances. I get the Model A trade. Tastes change. Don't worry about clogging this post, it's a community.

  10. I wish I had the skills to just rip it apart and go for it but, I have to balance. By the time I get it fully road functional it will likely be substantially replaced and reworked. Keep going, I'll keep reading your thread, lot's of valuable info in there for me.

  11. Another goal of mine was to finally get 'Clementine' to a small meet - mission accomplished. This is the Canadian Tire meet in North Vancouver that has been happening every Friday night since forever - maybe 20-25 years. Took all the back roads to get there as we don't do stuff in a hurry - like reverse- or 1st. Cars last night were mostly muscle but, some Hamb friendly. I didn't take photos of any of them because I have to admit I really didn't care. I just felt the need to suppress an open laugh that we were actually there. Everything about how this truck drives makes me laugh. Kids were parked beside me in my oldest guy's car. My youngest guy declined riding in the truck with me, something about him not having a helmet or gas mask. Such disrespect. I bullyed him. Uuuh, the photo of the 'er uh OT car is my kid's wheels. I can't believe how many people swarm the thing - some of you may know what it is but, that's it on that matter.

  16. How many squeaks does it take to drive you over the edge. You'd think the squeak in the dash would resolve itself based on the amount of oil leaking from the back of my mechanical oil gauge. Where is the teflon tape? Actually had it taped but, I guess 50 psi can move a lot of oil. Filled one of the structural beads on the passenger floor without me even noticing. Noticed a bolt missing under the ashtray from the brace to the bottom of the dash so will nab both those items. Different nature to a build at this point. While I was sourcing my 'Jerry can' filler tube I asked about a dual carb setup and whether they still sold my carb. He went in the back without saying much and brought out the duplicate to our carb. He then looked at me blankly and said, call Norm. As it turns out Norm works 3 days a week installing systems like ours because he is partially retired. Fellow I was talking to had the 'economy of words' thing going on but, then said, Ya, call Norm, he drag races that kind of stuff. Wha, what!!! Going to call Norm this upcoming week.

  17. Kind of taking a break from the truck thing but, this was worthy of a photo today. Looking out the window of my site office I see heavy action! Not a drop of debris on Sweet Clementine.

That's a little too close for comfort for me!! LOL

I was wondering what happened since I hadn't seen a post from you in a over a week. Taking a break now and then does seem to rejuvenate your interest in the project. They can be overwhelming at times.

  19. Like most situations, it depends who's doing what. The guys working beside my truck are A team guys. More than a few out there that if I saw them standing in the same spot doing the same thing, I would have intervened. My shiny black daily would not have been there. A 30 year old paint job is liberating.

Getting a bit more used to the sounds and performance of the truck. I planned to get into the engine next but, the transmission is telling me otherwise. I'll come back with renewed interest. We're too into this car stuff to be down for long.

  20. Another great day yesterday. Running back and forth to another site 4 x. The reason, guys come out to talk truck. I'd leave, realize I forgot something back I go, at least it's only an 8 minute trip but, a 1/2 hr BS session. Trip 1 - Table saw that took 3 guys to carry- box is a bit short with the big tank in the back.. Trip 2 - I forgot the fence, back to get it, more chatter. Trip 3 - forgot the laser level. This truck is distracting.

Debugging a build, Cord, battery charger, multi meter - check. At least I am leaving a few more tools at home as I get used to this thing. It is a rattling, bouncing, squeaking smile making machine. I didn't zonk down every bolt when I slapped it together. Inner fenders are looseish with 2-3 bolts per side not in. Figured I needed to pull it all apart in the near future. It's safe but, it makes noise which is a bit unnerving to me because I've been driving newer trucks for a long time.

That's too funny that the guys keep chatting about the truck. Glad you are enjoying it.
    Are you keeping that tank?

  22. Morning, I am keeping it. Propane is less than 1/2 the price of gas. It's a big tank but, it's part of the package and at least 1/2 the people who come to see it ask what's with the tank. Plus side is if I fill it to max the truck is lower and smooths out the ride. That and if I can sort out a dual carb blow through hair dryer it will truly be a unicorn in a belly button world.

    This is awesome Will!
I really hear ya on the peace of mind that comes that a 30 year old, or "Significantly Less That Perfect" paint job brings. I always parked my black late model PU out in BFE to avoid parking lot dings. In fact, Wifey's 'Yota got side-swiped at the pizza joint a week or so back. No note. People suck!

Now, this multi carb blow thru idear of yours.....dude, we gotta talk!

Actually should work pretty good. Fairly common on certain OT motors of a horizontally opposed 4 cylinder variety! I've never seen it on domestic or conventional motors tho.
Maybe there's a reason fer that!

  24. Ha ha. The multi carb blow through thing. I found Fordsix through FTF and have read his multi carb NA stuff not really thinking I would do that. Then guys from Fordsix caught on to my postings there and someone suggested multi carb, they even found old pics of someone who did it. It outrageous enough to me that I instantly thought - perfect. It could run like crap left in my hands but, through guidance by others I can possibly get it to run, maybe even well. The other day during my multi runs to sites a guy came to look at the truck and asked me my plans. I mentioned multi carb hairdryer and he instantly says, 'Norm'. Norm is mentioned a few posts back and is apparently the alternate fuel guy in Vancouver. You, FTF and I'm sure a whole host of corrupting influencers on the HAMB will help me keep this thing exciting. We will have to PM soon. This thing will be a blast when done.

Side note, maybe IT hasn't been done to a domestic engine because the 300 is big displacement. I actually like the concept even more if it hasn't been done. If it turns out I can't get it to run, I unbolt and start again.

Y'know, I am happy to be that corrupting influence for ya!

A lot of the V8 guys run twin hair dryers blowing thru a single throttle body, but rarely the other way around. So your plan might be mostly for the "High Gee Whiz" factor!

Just a big intake tube connecting the individual carbs, and a tee to the "Blow" side of the "device" and you are there! The carbs would have to be set up for blow through operation tho. Not something most are aware of. Boost referenced power valves and fuel pressure being among those concerns. Plus a float that won't crush under pressure. Easy!

  26. Gee Whiz factor is it exactly, my carb is rated for 237 HP. The truck is far from that so right now the carb is fine. The next size up for an 8cyl is an Impco 425 good to about 333 HP. It seems to me a 425 isn't enough for a built 300cu straight 6. A propane carb functions as blow through in it's stock form from my understanding and fuel pressure - way up there, flows fast enough to freeze up the whole shebang. The dual carb might get shot down by experts but, I think 2 carbs the size I have now is in the range. I have an Impco 255. The next size down is an Impco 200. If I went with 2 x 200's I'd have to buy 2 carbs. I think 2 x 255's sounds like the range and I have to only buy 1. I'm reading a lot looking for something written why I shouldn't do it. Haven't found that yet so green light for now. Power Nation build is a template but, on the cheap like a high horse forklift. It's relevant in our low emission world.

  27. Watching Ken Ellison restore a Boss 300 Ford inline 6. Crazy Pro Stock mods on a 6 from the 70's that made 625 HP NA. Cut up 3x 351C to make 6 pcs for the head. Mechanical fuel injection. Also diving deep into watching David Vizard and Uncle Tony's Garage where they are starting a series to take stock parts and max with porting, polishing, balancing to get 1 HP per cubic inch. It may be a worm hole but, what a worm hole. Big breath, down I go.

  28. Weather is turning crappy again, back to fabrication school. Looked at Y-pipes online and after I saw what a 2-1/4" to 3" Y cost I figured - I'll make that. Already had a 2-1/4" U and a length of 3".

  29. Ah Yup. And to prove all is not smooth in the breezy Carport sometimes. I have to clean up and lock up after each session. Somehow the keys to my job box vanished - a couple of weeks ago. A locksmith was more than a new grinder, I now have 4 of them.
