Spokane, WA 1940: Benewah Market, part of Paul Newport’s Benewah Creamery, opened in 1938 as a full-service grocery store in the front of the building that housed the creamery’s production facility, at 408 E. Sprague Ave. The business remained for more than 30 years. The building previously housed Nelson Motor Co., which sold Hudson and Essex cars.
