I'm currently running an 8:1 Schroeder steering box in my AV8 and it works fine for my cowl steering set-up. But as my tired *** gets weaker I find the need for easier steering. I know for a very short time Schroeder made a 2:1 insert for the 4 bolt box. SOMEONE has one out there....HELP!!!
I know that Quiktime Products makes a version, but I'm having a hard time even getting a price from them...
I've got a Howe stock car steering ratio quickener/reducer that I'm going to adapt to a Schroeder box. I'll probably have my machinist buddy whittle a new housing which adapts to the top of the Schroeder box. But if you have room under the dash, it could be used in line.
Man, that is a neat shot, talk about gearhead "****"! Make sure to keep photo updates coming as you progress.
Your answer is here in Post#25 Technical - Schroeder steering box info request | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com)
yes, I'm currently seeking a quote from Quiktime, but West Evans is very slow getting me pricing. Not sure why.
from the info I have it looks like the unit Quiktime sells is made by a guy in NZ. The plot thickens....
Wasn't Schroeder bought out by Flaming River or Ididit? I remember seeing a Schroeder steering box in one of their booths at Louisville this summer but I can't remember which company was displaying it.
Yes, Ididit bought all the tooling and inventory, but I've been told (By them) that the ratio-reducer is NOT being produced currently and not in the foreseeable future.
Unsure. I searched for a few years for one of my customers. I ended up using an inline one from Howe (reducer run backwards).
What about Trackmaster Products? Are they still in business? They made a nice cowl steering box with the right ratio steering,

For what it is worth, you could almost exact bolt in a sprint car or midget POWER steering. They have adjustable feedback and adjustable amount of ***ist. They are available in several ratios. Many companies make them.
I have one of the Schroeder's made by Ididit. Took 10 months from ordering it to receiving it and twice the price Gary Schroeder charged me. Ididit doesn't sell pitman arms either. Anyone have an extra?
I installed a Profile 12::1 power gear in my avatar roadster. I had Tommy Lee go through it after he complained about how Profile stole his idea. Once he realized that he was getting paid to overhaul the gear, he calmed down and did a beautiful job. I was running rob fronts on the street and found out that they follow every rain groove or ruts in the road, but with 1500 psi of pressure applied through the gear, the tires go where you say and not where they want to. I run a 4 position Pittman arm and can slow down or speed up the gear as I choose. I much prefer the power gear as opposed to the manual gear. Much less effort especially in tight areas. We ran an 8::1 Schroeder manual gear in our sprint car for many years and our driver would complain about how tired his arms got on a long race and several yellows . Personal choice I guess.
Had a Lee gear in my second sprint car. It certainly took the work out of steering the car. Bet it would work great in a rod setup for cowl steering.
I have done 2 of them and both customers said they would never go back to non power or converted p***enger car units.
Now I will VENT. After weeks of research, and long online conversations, this morning my 2:1 multiplier is "In Stock" @ Quiktime...now the sleazy owner is asking for credit card info, including security code AND expiration date in a email...NOPE, not gonna fall for that. He claims he doesn't have a secure online billing platform and refuses PayPal. HOW does a guy run a business that way? I'd gladly hand him cash if I could. CC info, nope.
You know....that is how we ordered for decades? I just paid my internet, garbage and electric bills in similar fashion
Lady friend mentioned a $2,000 loss from trusting credit card info. Zing! Gone. I always send a signed blank check...
he has mentioned me sending a check, but that's still no guarantee that I get my parts. My point is the world is rampant with fraud and secure banking apps were created for a solid reason. I need a tracking number and business info. PERIOD. This isn't a small ticket item.
