I haven't done a build thread on this one. I bounce from project to project so much I tend to forget to keep up with posting updates. I may start one on this build after I make a little more progress.

Is the Roadster body another project, or long gone?

I've still got the body and may build it someday but I've several others ahead of it in line. I tend anymore to save the worst for last. When my father and I were building cars for all those years, we had a habit of using the worst parts we had to build with so in addition to having a new car to play with, we still had the best parts leftover for future builds. I'm now happy to use the good stuff and not worry about what is left over.

I just found this thread about a week ago. Amazing talent and the Hot Rod Gods are smiling down on all of you for saving them. Incredible.
I've seen better stuff considered hopeless and used as yard art.

Kind of crazy when you think of it, especially when you're pretty new to this hobby, that a few years ago when I first got this car I was debating about cutting my losses but now I have something that actually looks like a car.

  8. This is one of the HAMB's best threads ever,...too bad Pat Ganahl couldn't have gotten together with all you guys and written a book about all these "saves", the stories would be priceless,......would've made a fantastic book.

Ok, I am going to shed some light on rough powerplants for building with. I have not finished this one yet but.... as it goes... I had a guy who worked for me. He worked closely with me at times and when he found out about me building a Hot Rod, He offered up his deceased Dad's 57 dodge 325 Hemi for free. His Dad was an Salesman and he wrecked his Dodge when it had about 65,000 miles on it. The car ended up parked at the edge of his field when it was about 4 years old. By the time I rediscovered it, it was about 50 feet into the woods. I cut a path through saplings to extract it and had to cut the chassis apart to handle getting it out. hemi0001.jpg It had apparently had animals living in it. No carb, no oil cap and stuck beyond stuck. I tried many concoctions to break the pistons loose but no luck until I used charcoal to heat things up. 5 came out hard on the first treatment. The remainder the second time. I left it cool before hammering them out. jimpopper4.jpg jimpopper3.jpg I lined the lifter cavity with aluminum foil each time. The various penetrants didn't seep very far into the pistons from what I could tell. Even a Hemi for free isn't a bargain some times but I keep thinking it will all work out. I was doing electrolysis on the heads in the background. They and the rocker stands have been disassembled, reconditioned and stored.

34 three window I built in the 90's and sold in 2013. First pic is the day the coupe body showed up in my garage. Second picture is the finished product. back copy.jpeg oldcar_023.jpg

-I honestly think that my wife would have either left me or had me committed if I dragged that home.

My wife was raised on a drag strip on the weekends and had a nice 32 five window for 9 years right before I met her. With her, I have to avoid taking her with me when I go look at something for sale, she'll want me to buy every cool
old car there. She's into this stuff as bad as I am even if she teases me that we need to have an intervention...
Oh, and she's a good cook too. And yes she has a sister but no, her sister is her polar opposite.

I'm thinking you could get it titled in Ohio, then transfer to Pa.

Half of this car was built out of discarded materials.... although I wouldn't call it garbage.

I picked up this cab sitting loosely on a frame, with a spare set of fenders (unfortunately a different size). I’ve built cab/fender/ bumper mounts. Stretched inner fenders as previous owner disposed of them. Rebuilt the grill. Still in the process of polishing! This thread gives me hope to keep on. Thanks guys.

Yeah, I was going to toss in a couple pics of the "as found vs. now" on that truck... but then I saw the Taco Coupe and realized Ha-ha, I'm outta my league!
