This thing would be supercool with the big built flattie in it... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...m=320024708158&ih=011&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT I'm still working on modifying my 1959 Borum...bigger fins, extra tier on the bow, and reveneering it. I'll post some pix in the winter time. There is an old unlimited hydroplane with an Allison V-12 near Ft. Wayne that I have pictures of somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.
Ryan. I love the shape of the main pic and the 1st two that are on here. Looks like a stingray. KNUX!
They still race the small ones on the Delaware just about Trenton ,,NJ,,,damn those things are loud.. but boy do they dance across the water
I used to spend about a week each summer at the St Lawrence River fishing..close to Clayton NY. They have this antique boat show and auction and man are there some nice mahogany boats there. Definately a must see if you are ever up around the area. They are cris crossing the river all summer up there. http://www.abm.org/ Tim MBL
Ryan: Thanks for a great entry! Here's some photos I took in Seattle's museum of flight when they had some vintage race boats there. Here´s some more for those who are interested. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b193/Mikaka2/Museum of Flight/ --mika
You guys are killing me! I've had boats on the brain for a while now...now I gotta build one! Been looking at some of the Glen-l designs. Pretty cool stuff.
I am trying to dig up some pics of the boats my grandfather did in the 50's. One boat he did was in the move 'Magnificent Obsession'. Hopefully I can find the pics and scan them. He did some beautiful work.
Some very cool stuff on this site. One of the old timers I work with raced and worked with Henry Lauterbach back in those days and built a number of engines for some record holding hydros. He also built engines and crewed for a drag team that did really well in the 60's and 70's, most notably a Hemi powered Opel GT called "Mini-Brute". He's got some killer photos, memorabilia, and HISTORY. I love talking to the older guys.
Here are a couple I've been drooling over, stolen from another site. I absolutley LOVE wood boats and the lines they have. Too bad they are high maintienance. I'll stick to fiberglass
Are you kidding me ,that is kool as hell, what size motor, or what motor is that? powered by this... [/quote]
That's almost the exact same design I came up with to make a Corvair powered wood runabout, even made a half hull and a 1:12 balsa model.
I brought this up from an old thread...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1120630
My Friend has a 1956 Shepherd like this with a Dual quad Hemi in it...! I don't know why my photos disappear?
A little Youtube of a Chris Craft.... Chris Craft Cobra's were the first to introduce a "Fiber Glass" fin and marked an end of an era...!
You guys are speaking my language! Ive been involved with vintage wood boats since I was born.. Ive been working on/restoring/building wood boats (and some vintage unlimiteds) since I was new! .. Thanks dad..
She's a little to big to be considered a "speed" boat. But I love the lines and the combination of teak (mahagony?)& stainless. Thunderbird - Lake Tahoe
