Yeah, that too. But I was going along with the patina look, only much better. And something you could do in a day without too much sweat, and real low cost.

Well, it is a hotrod. A burnout is expected.

  4. He saw it on eBay, put in a low bid and was the winner, he said that he was surprised.

  5. You mean there is another reason to build a hot rod? Damn I been going about this wrong.:):):):)

How is wanting to do a burnout in a hotrod a bad thing?

I liked the seat covers better, maybe rebuild the seat with plain upholstry and put them back on.

    great car.

I’ve been driving since 1959. I’ve had countless cars. Drag raced, owned 2 Bonneville record setting cars, I am in the 200 mph club at Bonneville and never ever seen the necessity or ever wanted to do a burnout on the street or on the gravel like TV. An absolute waste of rubber and gravel chips.
I’ve even asked Dave “why”? and knew the answer as you all do.

I'll be 72 next month never could afford the loss of tires, or owned a car that I thought could do a burn out.

Wow. All this time I figured you for a younger guy. Damn, you're not the Beaver or Wally, your Ward's brother.

That's like saying you were born with thin lips and couldn't afford the skin to try kissing.:( Bummer old dude.

It's never to late to live closer to the edge, you get a much better view, and admission is the same price in the bigger picture.

Worn out or aged out, a guy has to decide.o_O

No, no, no…skip the sandpaper for sure. I’d start with just Gibb’s oil. Maybe CLR if you want a little less drastic patina, especially on the hood, then Gibb’s oil, but sandpaper, no, as painting would be a major task for even a driver quality paint job!

You have not read very many of my responses. Most every on here on the HAMB know I helped Noah and I’m one of the younger ones who did.

    Hello,
Yes, excellent point. Your history is well known here, some people just don't read the facts. Sometimes, it is good to read the information provided to continue a normal thread. If not, here are the facts.

The Beaver: Jerry Mathers June 2, 1948 NOW AGE 74

    Wally: Tony Dow April 13, 1945 – July 27, 2022 at age 77

The dad: Hugh Beaumont Feb 16, 1909- May 14, 1982 at age 72

We current old guys are in the same category of the two brothers and not the dad. Facts are facts... We try to keep the real aspects of history alive for everyone. We are not the encyclopedia of hot rods, but continue to add as much history and current aspects of the activity for most of us.

We all grew up in time where money was not always available unless we had to work or earn money one way or another. So, things like tires were a great commodity. The TV shows that just waste tread and tires are giving some people the idea that all hot rod folks do that. We value our cars and builds. Those guys get paid to be interesting and show an aspect of hot rods through TV.

I am sure that even things necessary as tire truing, which shaves lots of odd ball rubber to get a tire round is an awful sight on the floor. But, that is a necessity, whereas, burning rubber always leaves 2nd and ends up on the losing end of any encounter.

Correct history is the only way to look at things, otherwise, we would have people saying they are from the past without any knowledge of hot rod history in any place of the USA.

j…. Trouble is reality TV IS real to some just as “r” rods are depicted as what we had in the past which was not any reality I ever knew.

College kids in the 30-40’s had jalopies made out of 20’s cars. I grew up with tri-5’s as cheap transportation as did the guys after us sought out V-dubs. We have a lot of great contributors here encompassing a lot of generations.

The common thread is the automobile and the eras here being written about by those who lived their small area of it. I believe the media at each time in magazines tied our countries different styles and trends together. California was definitely not Philly or Jersey as well as North Dakota was not Texas but we could see it and read it once a month.

    Long live the HAMB.

Has Roadkill ever tried to see how long a sustained burnout can be done using a 1909-1948 Ford rear axle?

I admit I've done a few burnouts back during my misspent youth. Out in my Fairlane one night, I got pulled over and given a warning. On my copy of the warning the officer had written "exhibition of acceleration" and I thought that was just about the coolest damned thing ever.:D Been calling burnouts that ever since.

Burnout? Hell I've learned that the majority of the members here either doesn't drive their car, or they've been building it for 40 years lol. I test the durability of everything I build :D Freiburger is a car guy, little bit spoiled, but that's fine. He builds cars and knows what he's talking about in my opinion. He owns some badass cars and has saved a bunch from their demise. Good on him. I like his style.
