Hey guys, Saw this on FB marketplace, wasn’t really in the market for a car but had saved a good chunk of money getting back from deployment and just couldn’t resist a survivor T bucket. I am familiar with Bo Jones and his modified, as well as his 27 sedan painted the same way. My dad, brother and I all talk about how much we like T buckets and I’ve been looking for a survivor rod for a while. I saw a few older threads of this car for sale a few years back on the HMAB. Looks like it switched hands two times before the guy I bought it from got it. But anyone have any more info on this car? Im thinking it’s a legit Bo Jones car due to his name striped on the driver side door and his name engraved on a plate on the dash. But also it’s running a 181 mercruiser which I know his 27 sedan had in it as well as a bunch of the cars he built. Basically just looking for any pictures or information on the car. Im super stoked to be the new caretaker of it, especially since it gives me a driver while I plan to engine swap my 28 phaeton. here are some pics, as well as a picture of the 27 sedan Bo Jones built. thanks in advance for any info! That car may have been built by Bo but I think most of us are more familiar with his lakester style T with the narrowed 26/27 body and stretched chassis.
I believe Bob Schoonhoven still owns the tudor, and I think Roy Brizio owns the little car. Bob lives in Ranch Cucamunda California, I don't have his number Roy Brizio can help you with Bob's number, or maybe he knows about track roadster pictured. If you do a search, we have had more than one thread on Bo Jones and his cars over the years. And, as @krylon32 said, his modified is probably the most famous. I think he actually built more than one version of it?
I’ve done a search on Bo and was familiar with his modified and also heard about his sedan he made in the same paint scheme. So I was stoked to see a track T he made and had bring it home. it surely does drive like a gentleman’s go kart. It accelerates off the line really nice and handles really well. I’ll have to give Roy a call and see if he can either get me bobs number or at least has some information on the car itself. I know people have built tributes to his modified, and saw he made a white one with red scallops as well that’s pretty Bitchin too, but nothing beats the original. In any case the only plans I have for it to be to maybe change the 15s in the rear to 16” Kelsey’s with Firestone dirt tracks… and then dirt tracks in the front as well. I just have two concerns with doing that. 1) probably won’t handle as well with the bias plys instead of the radials it has 2) won’t be as peppy off the line if I switch from the current 28” rear tire to the 31” dirt track tire that is standard for 16” wires. I do think it will give it a little better look overall and a little more of a rake. heres a picture of of it with my yellow Kelsey’s that are a rear of 30” staged in front of it…. (I don’t plan on running yellow wheels, I plan to preserve it as Bo would have to wanted.

I got some smoothie caps that aren’t the flat ones that are on it. I kinda like the flat ones but if I put Kelsey’s in the rear I’m not adding the screw holes to fit the flat hubcaps on them. anyone know what bolt pattern a Volvo rear would be? Looks like either 5 on 4” or 5 on 4-1/4” but can’t tell and maybe it’s metric?? there’s adapters on the rear end that go to a 5 on 5 BP, while the front is standard 5.5BP. anyway here’s a pic, I’d like to track down some new adapters that make the car have 5 on 5.5” wheels all around and then put some dirt track tires on it. anyone have any experience with the dirt tracks? I’ve heard good things about Coker but also some of the older threads from 15 years ago kinda bash Coker… in any case thanks in advance.
If I were wanting a dirt tracker style rear tire I would call towel city and have them cut the design into the tread for me. a taper measure will tell you what your bolt pattern is. Let me find the guide quick

Looks like they are 4-1/4”… with outside being 5x5. I like the look of these dirt tracks… I want them on the wider side… maybe somewhere between 8 and 10”… im assuming this photo shows an 8” wide rear tire? Towel city has some great dirt track rear options. Yeah get the slicks and have them sipe the “dirt tracker” type grooves in. That’s what the Coker are more or less as well
Any idea what guys use for wishbone bushings? I’ve attached some pictures. The passenger side rear wishbone is pretty loose, just due to the bushings. The nuts and bolts are tight. I’ve included some pictures of both sides front and rear bones, some bushings look decent, others look worn out. Thinking I’ll just replace all them. But really trying to find where I could buy them from?
I get my replacement bushings from Pete & Jake's. Theirs are urethane and black. They come in several sizes/
Look at those paint chips !! Love it !! Means it's being driven not some trailer queen like alot of them. To me, cars are made to be driven not towed! On the bushings, I'd pull one apart and measure them then check places like ebay and listings that show measurements. .
Speedway, Energy Suspension Parts, Auto Zone, Advance, O'Reilly............................. Don't forget to get the inside sleeves. Have you taken one apart to see if the bushings even have sleeves in them like they should?
Just me, but I would be leery of those fabricated bushing ends. They don't look very professional, and the welds are questionable. If it was me, I'd be buying new rod ends and bushings. Safety first!
I have a Volvo rearend in my track "T" also, and it is 4 1/4" lug pattern. I have adaptors to 4 1/2" Ford. Been on there for over 20 years. I don't have an E brake on mine, and I can't remember what year the rearend is. It supposed to have mechanical calipers for the E brake.
Lostone, Yeah man I’ve taken it on a couple hundred mile + trips already… once I get the bushings switched out I’m gonna have to wash it again. Don’t want the beautiful orange lacquer to get too messed up. I like finished cars (no patina) but not too nice to drive with usually a good ole 20 foot paint job. Fat Ass Whitewalls, Good to know they are in fact 4-1/4. I guess putting a Volvo rear behind track Ts is kinda a common deal? took the rear bone off and measured the bushings. I ordered the corresponding bushings from speedway. Pete and Jake’s at summit didn’t have the sizes I needed and were double the price of speedway’s so I went with those. I gotta think they all come from the same china factory. pics of the bushing attached to show how bad bushings were needed. Hopefully they come on Friday like it says which would be great to keep driving the heck outta this thing. Thanks for all the responses, I’ll be sure to update it once the new bushings are on. Gordy
