I recently priced a dash bezel for a 51 Merc to go fron Ontario Canada to 2 different hambers in California. 20 Lbs. Package. 18x36x8 inches. 2 quotes Postal Service & Fed-Ex. $98. each. Warning from Canada Post as of Nov. 29, this year because of inflation rates going up 40 percent. Both buyers declined and I don't blame them. I will be going back to swap meets.

Insane--shipping price are off the charts!! sent some window moldings from Ca to Carolina--used to be around $30--$98!! I think I'm done shipping parts-not worth it for me or the buyer

Yes, hopefully this helps boost swap meets. I used to sell a lot online but not so much any more because of the cost of shipping.

When I started selling my T5 kits 25+ years ago I was shipping most kits for an average of 15.00 now it's around 45.00

UPS gives a pretty hefty discount if you're shipping for a large company...I just sent some wheels off today using the ebay shipping discount, buyer paid 75 for shipping which cost me only 40. Kind of strange how that works. I expect amazon, summit, etc don't pay much for ups shipping, compared to normal people.

I recently sold a diff on Epay. They overcharged the buyer considerably, which probably cut into my potential profit, as it went for about half of what I've sold them for in the past. Anyway, I slipped some cash into the box with a note to the buyer. Once received I got a very nice thank you.

  8. If someone want’s something I have and they are willing to pay the shipping I have no problem sending it. All depends on how bad you need something

Ontario,Canada to LA is about 2700 miles. While outrageous compared to yesterday, your $98.00 Canadian is only 3.6 cents a mile. In US money, 2.7 cents a mile. If you need the part, maybe that's not too bad.

Guys in Australia and New Zealand have a REAL LOVE of the hobby, I always feel bad knowing what shipping costs them. My boxing is always free, recycled boxes and a roll of tape is part of on line selling.

Some swap meets have improved due to the collapse of ePay and the shipping costs. I only offer large parts at swap meets or pickup at my home. If it fits in a usps flat rate box or it’s quite small- I’ll offer that here for sale. Really small parts under one pond and less than one foot in length can go by usps first class package- which is very economical.

I've got or should I say I used to have a FedEx account. Time after time I would go in and have them measure and weigh the box and give me a price. Later that day after the buyer approved the price I'd go back in to ship the box and the price would change. Their explanation was that the first price I was given was only a quote and not final until the box was actually shipped. WTF? It gets worse. I shipped a part, was given a receipt and my CC was charged per my account agreement. But when I got my CC statement FedEx billed it more than the receipt. When I called FedEx I was given some BS about having to file a claim. Screw that. I disputed the overcharge with my CC company and they reversed the overcharge. Needless to say I no longer have a FedEx account and I longer use them to ship anything.

Those guys down under are tricky! I sold a Columbia rear end to a guy in Australia . If I had of shipped it it would have cost a fortune!
What he did was direct me to a guy in Indiana and we loaded it in one of those shipping containers with a ton of other stuff! When it gets full they ship the whole container. Not sure what it cost him , or how they charge each guy, but I bet it was less than direct shipping!
I used that money to buy my 1965 427 long tube cast iron exhaust manifolds!

And then there's the cost of fuel to go to those !

  16. And UPS is no better, I've had them pull the same crap. One of the problems is many of the drop-off points are franchises and I suspect they can pocket the difference. My son-in-law is a ground delivery route owner for FedEx (only FedEx Air is actually delivered by FedEx corporate) and HE won't use them because of cost. If you're one of the big boys and shipping packages daily, there is a hell of a price break but you and I won't see it.

USPS is still the cheapest shipping method available to non-business 'anybodys', but our current Postmaster General is trying his best to fix that...

  17. I remember the days when the item cost more than the shipping did.
As said, buying from Oz or NZ nowadays is a lot less frequent unless the item is really needed not just wanted.
I priced a set of shock link rubber balls through a business here over east,
$9.00 usd , by the time I would of received them I was looking at over $200.00 Oz dollars, nearly all in freight. I told the guy I’d prefer to by taken out for dinner before he screwed me.

People piss and moan when I say that I won't ship some of my items for sale. I'm tired of explaining that the shipping cost is too high for the item.
    Now you're seeing it.

Exactly! The UPS stores are not regulated by UPS. They are franchised and will charge what they please.
I've taken items to UPS and a got the quote. Take it to the UPS Store near me instead and they tried to rip me off. After telling them that I have the shipping price from UPS, they told me all about being franchised and their own prices.

I suspect it'll get worse when the diesel goes to the highest bidder.

I mailed off a small part the other day that I ended up sending in a large envelope that I bought at the post office because even with the cost of the envelope mailing it ended up being about 4 bucks less than the smallest priority mail box it would fit in. I used to ship a lot of stuff I sold on Ebay by Priority mail simply because I could give an honest shipping cost up front.

USPS small priority box was $4.95 in 2008 when I quit selling on ebay. it is $10.00 now. don't worry, Amazon and Walmart get great rates for the Chinese junk they sell us.

  27. I always wondered how much companies truly have to pay for shipping. I've ordered tons of parts from speedway and summit, and always had free shipping. I know that FedEx and UPS doesn't work for free.

Hey guys, another option are USPS Regional flat rate boxes, which are like the regular flat rate boxes
except that they are cheaper to send. Regional box "A" has a 15lb. maximum wt., while Regional box "B"
has a 20lb maximum wt. I just sent a 17lb package from Denver to NH for $22. Price also includes
$100 of insurance on any shipment. And you can order these boxes to be delivered to you at NO
CHARGE, plus many other supplies. While it may not work for all, it might just work for you.

I don't think we have seen the end of it yet, diesel is on the rise, becoming short supply and no signs of it letting up anytime soon.

I guess you can't be too upset on some price hikes, a semi gets around 5 to 6 miles a gallon loaded so at 5.60 or higher a gallon I suspect someone is going to have to help pay for fuel....
