The Harrell Engines/Don Reynolds/Willie Borsch ‘29 highboy A/R. The July ‘60 Hot Rod said it ran a 4-71 with eight Stromberg’s but the photo clearly shows it’s a 6-71. This car ran low 11’s and 140 mph on gas. It would be another year until the muffler moly, glass T car came out also running gas.

  23. Let’s see now, that’s three counts of bootlegging, two counts of resisting arrest, one count of fleeing the police, one bourbon, one scotch and one beer.

    Please ignore the wheels . . . Roadster - Pits copy 2.jpg
This was at on the first day in 2003 that I ran my own roadster. The trailer behind was built by Steve Batchelor. The "D Street" sign was picked up at the city yard -- they had replaced all the street signs with ones that had an American flag on them (so the Martians would know where they were when they got here(?). I'd owned the roadster for over 40 years at that time.

We declared that it was to run under the San Berdoo Roadsters banner -- they were a long ago 1940s SCTA club and I'd found one of their plaques. We ran the car in the D Street Roadster class, which was fine as I lived at 3076 D Street in San Bernardino and used the 3076 for our number with the street sign showing 3000 block north.

First time out ran 178 in the quarter to qualify for the long course -- then 190, 190 for the record. Boy, that was sure easy! 200 proved to be a harder goal.

To me, the picture "Needs No Explanation" -- but it meant a lot to me and the crew.
