  1. Just built this 3 string 32 Ford Michigan license plate electric guitar....great wall hanger for the "Man Cave"..plays pretty good too. Had the plate and V8 part from my 32 build a couple years back.

Nice work, but why only 3 strings?

It's actually a common thing. Cigar box guitars, etc. Lots of guys building um like that. Was common in the south bitd to make a guitar out of anything you could, and some only had ONE string and we're played with a gl*** bottle or anything else that could be fashioned into a slide. They all kind of sprang out of the didley bow....

  8. 3 string guitars have quite a history and following today. They are fun to make and play. I have built numerous "theme" guitars for people that wanted 3 or 4 string guitars. 210 has said it above ...people made music with the materials they had on hand in poorer times...gut buckets, didley bows, scrub boards, s****s, delcimers, ...people made do and an old cigar box with some bailing wire made for a simple guitar.

When I was a kid I wanted a guitar. I knew Paul McCartney's guitar only had 4 strings, and him being my favorite Beatle, I naturally bought a 4 stringer. Didn't know what it was at the time, but went on to be a b*** player in blues bands for the next 25 years
