Art & Inspiration The Mother Of all Dash/Gauge Threads!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JeffreyJames, Oct 22, 2008.

  1. I too have an AD truck, but I went with a rebuild/conversion (to 12 volt electric) on my gauges because I couldn't find aftermarket units that looked period correct IMHO. For some reason, the aftermarket has chosen to invent fonts that try to be 'one size fits all' and miss the mark for most eras. YOMV

Sometimes, just restored stock just fits the car perfectly.

Here’s a couple I’ve done at work recently…first one for a ‘32 5-window, and innie filled then Studebaker gauges added. The second a ‘34 roadster dash, smoothed and glovebox filled, then a bunch of Stewart Warners added.

well - nothing spectacular here, just an original 32 roadster dash. I hope it's ok to post it here and ask the gearheads out there for an advice: I don't want to cut up the dash and use the original gauges:
    1. where would you put the additional gauges: 2x water temp, oil press and a tach
    2. are there NICE gauge panels on the market for this (no cheap chrome stuff from far east...)
thank you very much and if this does not fit this thread, please remove 1932_ford_roadster_IMG_1081-2-38838-scaled.jpeg

Nice dash! Those mid-1930's gauges are under appreciated & I could never understand why. They are quite good looking & inexpensive compared to the similar Stewart-Warner ones. Maybe because most of the speedometers were made by AC & the cable connections aren't all over the place like the Stewart-Warner ones? What is that gizmo on your column holding your tach?

    Thank you.
The column is from a model T and the tach is mounted to the timing/throttle levers with a little bracket I made.

where did you get this additional panel for the temp and pressure gauge?

  17. I picked it up at a swap meet, can't really remember which one or when.

I'm sure one of the Antique Ford parts sites have them for sale...Brattons, Macs, Vintage Ford, etc.

    Here is one online vendor:
