Was looking for some 1951 mercury fender skirts and Robin from Koop de Glass in New Zealand supplied me with a few sets.
Robin even delivered them free of charge when he was visiting Brisbane on holidays
    Top bloke.

Cool car. No at all reason you couldn't do long interstate runs with a y-block or hemi. They would be equally as dependable.

  4. Cheers mate and agree with you.
The hemi is earmarked for my hotrod.

A good friend Cusso Allan is going to help out with fitting an engine and suspension work
So taking the car to his workshop with the use of his awesome 1960s f350 ramp truck

    Jamco suspension fitted.
Went in pretty easy and happy to have disc brakes on the front of the car.

It's time to fit the engine and just wanting to give a heads up to anyone fitting a 351 cleveland/windsor. Please ask for the long frame pearches not the short ones Jamco supplied. Three guys in Australia all had the same problem.
Not sure why this happens but jamco are quick to respond to the situation.

I agree with Squablow, we need more Merc build features. Great looking ride, I'll be following along!

Great progress Pete, enjoying the build tremendously. I'm a Ford in a Ford fan, so good on ya. I'm particularly fond of a 408 Windsor with some finned vintage VCs and and a big '50s air cleaner housing. Best of both worlds.

  15. Thankyou I'm glad your enjoying the build.
That engine of your sounds awesome. I'm looking at modifying a 50s oil bath air cleaner for a better look. Post a pic of your engine if you like

Here is a nifty little item you may want to check into. Ford oil filters in stock form can be a problem with the Merc frame. In the 70's Ford made this item as a stock item for the early Vans and some Trucks. It turns the filter 90 degrees and lets it rotate on a wet bolt. I found it to be the cure for lack of space on several builds. We used to be able to get them out of the wrecking yard for $5.oo and $10.oo. Now you can still get them through most aftermarket suppliers like Speedway, Summit and Jeg's. Just thought I'd throw that in your hat for info.

  17. That is perfect for what I'm doing and will look into getting one . Cheers mate

    Fits pretty good.
A f100 4x4 rear sump was used and the engine was pushed back as far as it can go . Cusso Allan will modify the trans tunnel for better clearance as I'm using a c6 transmission.
Pretty much using 1978 f100 running gear.
    351 + c6 + 9 Inch.

    Thanks for advice everyone

Trans cover has been modified to cover the large c6 transmission. Firewall was trimmed a small amount aswell.
It's hard to see but the part at the top has been extended forward .

Front ends back on a beginning to look like a car again .
Panels all line up way better than before .
Radiator will have to be moved forward for fan clearance.
