If you want something that will work, you might just want to buy an expensive aftermarket one. And they're not really that expensive, compared to in the past...used to cost $100 35 years ago, they're 300 something now. Not much in a junkyard that will be easy to adapt....unless you find one of those 35 year old aftermarket units, and get real lucky and it still works.
I have installed Dakota Digital system (made by Rostra) on 2 cars. One with stalk controls and the other with the control panel. Love them both. I like to take long trips in my cars and this helps so much. It's not really hard to do.
I've never had my Rostra cruise control stick on. The brake switch and column switch both shut it off. Over 35,000 kms of frequent use and it has never failed me. I honestly can't say that my mechanical throttle cable hasn't stuck for other reasons (while not using cruise control) in that time period. The Rostra even shuts off if I accelerate too fast (such as when p***ing on a two-lane). It's smarter and more reliable than I am most of the time. I have zero concern about my Rostra causing an unsafe event I can't control. I think you'll find that they're su****iously similar to the Rostra units. Maybe even identical, maybe even manufactured by Rostra.
I have an aftermarket cruise control along with a bunch of other parts that were taken off a Chevy Caprice when it was rebuilt. I think it's pretty complete. If anyone wants to tinker with it, send a message. I can get a couple photos and could send them (preferably) via text. Price will be "very affordable"! Lynn (573) 286-3335 (Cell)
I put a old original Dana Speedostat on a couple old cars. I have 2 of them if anyone is interested I'd sell em, I'm never going to use them. Message me if interested.
Yes they are. That's what my post was alluding to. Every time I see this subject I see people say they have Rostra or they have Dakota, and funny enough they're the same unit.
