Early Dodge bodies were all steel, so they have a good survival rate. Especially in Vans area :D

The wood was a hold up back then, I would guess. The Dodges and Plymouths had an extensive amount of wood in them. Even back then the cars were 30 years old, so the wood was probably starting to decay.

Hot Rod, October, 1969. My very first car mag ever, my Mom got it for me along with that month's Car Craft. Has an awesome '22 or '23 Dodge roadster ala T-Bucket in it. The T-Bucket mobile in "The Lively Set" is also a same era Dodge, and was in Speedy Bill's museum in September, when I stopped for a visit.

  8. I was under the impression it was the opposite a Dodge’s were one of the first to do away with wood sub structures and go with steel .

Hence why it’s always a dang dodge !!!

they have a better survival rate !!

Man I dunno. When I was a kid in HS I found a 1920ish dodge sedan on a farmers ravine. It wouldn’t hardly stand up under its own weight. I always assumed it was due to the wood….maybe? Maybe not ?

DODGE BROTHERS bodies were steel inside and out, some wood tacking strips and top bows that was it.

This is a Dodge, it was on the cover of Car Craft, and Hot Rod as well. It had an Ardun, Desoto, 426 Wedge, and 426 Hemi, in it's racing career. 2013-05-06 205201.jpg Littlle Thumper.jpg

  24. I’ve said it time and time again Dodge ( Chrysler etc) had some of the nicest dashboard and interiors of there times in the 30’s to 60’s

heck even the 70’s with there Corinthian leather !!:D

  25. “The irony is that Ford’s success is due, in no small part, to the efforts of the Dodge Brothers.“
“In a 1916 lawsuit filed by the Dodges, Henry Ford admitted that the Dodges made the entire Ford except the body, wheels and tires and that they also risked much financially while Ford himself invested no money or property and contributed only his experience and the design.”
From Charles K Hyde’s book The Dodge Brothers.
Makes sense to me why they are still around. When you consider total numbers produced vs Ford it’s even more remarkable. Reliable. :)

Many parts on my 1912 Ford have DB stamped in them or forged in standing letters. I'll pick up DB Model T parts when I see them at swap meets.

Dodge Brothers open cars were all steel right from the beginning in Nov 1914. The early closed cars did have a lot of wood until late '22 then all steel from then on. Plymouth didn't come into being until 1928 after Chrysler bought Dodge. Plymouths had a lot of wood in the early cars but by '32 or or '33 for sure were all steel.

Yeah the DB weren’t fooling around. They died too young.
