HEMI Tech: Camshafts.. new? Regrind? solid or Hydraulic?

Sadly, the clockable starter does not help. The only way to make a 904 work would be to rotate the trans on the adapter CCW to drop the starter position.
Also, recall that the OD is 0.69:1 so a 4.56 becomes 3.14 or so.... your 3.55 looks like a 2.45.
Now, what's more fun than a TF and 4.56?

That's a shame, I really liked the idea of the lighter 904, less power use, less weight, wide ratio spread, it was ideal in a lot of ways for the build. Its a shame there are no ready made plates out there already, i'm not so hot on commissioning a custom one as a have QEP half adapter ring already hanging on the pegboard at home (had it for years now).

 

Does anyone have a good suggestion for having a roller cam reground? I have a NOS Sig Erson cast roller cam that is too much cam for my combination. I currently have a Isky solid flat rapper cam and want to upgrade.

 

Yes - talk to the guys at Bullet Cams - they've made a lot of different cams for all sorts of street and comp engines that I've been involved with (and a ton of full competition late 426 style blown-alky Hemis and everything else imaginable).

BTW, I would not attempt a regrind on your cast iron core - as with the spring pressures we need/run today, you should have a heat-treated steel 8620 core. Bullet can supply the steel core - not a problem.

Here are the specs and part number that they used to grind a cam for a blown 392 Hemi. I've not ran the cam yet - other projects are in front of it!

This cam requires springs with about 190 lbs @ 1.950 installed height (seat pressure), With 552 lbs @ 1.250 (max lift). Given that the cam above only lifts .540, the spring pressure will be a lot less at full open.

Thanks for the reference. I should have been more spacafic on my request. I have a street strip combo 392 Hemi, naturally aspirated with a 4.4 stroke crank, 10-1 compression. The car has a torqueflite with a 3k stall, 4.10 gears and weighs 2800 pounds. I don't want to put long valves and offset rocker stands.

 

Here is what I have on a blown 392...

 

Since you want to avoid long valves and stand work you should keep the lift at 0.500 max. I have used 0.515 a couple of times but found that there is alot of scuffing between rocker tip and valve tip. Offset stands are helpful even without long valves if you are at the 500 mark.
As for the roller regrind, call Schneider and talk with Jerry. I agree that 280@050 is a bit steep. Perhaps 240 would have better manners... and be a little easier on valve train parts.

I still have a reground long nose 331 cam you did in back in the nineties. That engine never got done as the 392 took priority.

 

I'm right at 0.500" lift.

Who makes good offset stands?

 

I second Jim at Racer Brown. But I may be a little biased, as he is a good friend of mine. I have used plenty of his stuff in everything from a 283 boat engine to a 440 drag car and a few things in between. I haven't run the motor yet, but I have a 210* regrind in a 153 4 banger I'm building. I know he has done many fresh and regrinds for the early Hemis and even early flat head stuff, but I have not used one in any of those yet. Gene.
