Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by j hansen, May 3, 2020.

  1. Would it be allowed to make two fixed sides between the tank and roll bar legs with a removable top and front for access/service?

Shoot, I would have definitely taken them off your hands. Last week I got 3 Model A axles, and 2, 37-41 axles from Mark Brislawn.

Looks like a fun project. I have an idea of what I may do, granted it may not works since I'm only seeing two pictures. I'm anxious to see what you do.

I've had no luck with those Offshore Fuel filters and I've tried two. Was always leak'n where the Can meets the red housing. Was able to scronge up a Fram Original from the classifides here. No Problem with that one. Hope you have better Luck Fram HPG1.jpg

  9. Hung the lights on the bumper. Then found my box of fabric loom was at home instead of the shop, figures. Wiring will have to wait for next time.

  10. Tighter to the fuel cell definitely gives more usable interior space for the battery, but a little more complicated. If that brace was straight across rather than tapering towards the back of the car on the ends then it would be easier.
Fitting it tight around the roll bar but still having the center removable and it all fitting tight together is the stumbling block, but I like this better than one giant flat sheet.

Resized_image_15962570767242[1589].jpeg I made a Speed Run over to Watertown, SD. to pick up some parts for my AV8 project. Randy had just about everything I need. I think this '40 rear end might be a virgin, still has the tube safety wired. How about this fancy " Over Load Spring" set up, kool huh. Got a complete F1 steering box, a '37 switch, an A wishbone, nice front brake setup, hubs, drums, spindles, king pins, steering arms. Gonna blow everything apart and clean and refresh what needs to be. Should be on the road next week, next spring maybe next year!!! Having fun anyway! The "over load spring" setup under the rear leaf is similar to some of the setups i've seen in the old moonshine runner cars.

Today I removed the seats and interior to catalog any repairs needed.

  15. At least it's (hopefully) keeping the mice away!

  16. Someone on the Ford Barn might be interested in it for restoration....

That's an interesting picture of the springs.... We often hear about rough riding replacement springs and looking closely at the stock spring reveals quite a bit. The factory spring was tapered in thickness and width at the ends, which allowed for easier sliding between two adjacent leaves. Most repops are square cut and not tapered in thickness. Save that one if you can!

I started to fit the first blower bits and pieces to the flathead. Luckily I had a pair of waterpumps with a short housing so I could modify the belt wheels to fit these pumps. Now all this stuff should just slide in between the front axle and radiator of my 34 Tudor. Blower snout was more than two inches too long so a lot of work on the lathe to make it all fit.Where could I get new WEIAND tin signs for the blower???? 20230114_204915.jpg 20230114_204915.jpg

I like that too. Have you ever seen the floor stiffener strips that Tim McCamis sells? I can see a pretty clean set up with a removeable center and seam at the down bar to floor and bar to body.

  21. Remembered to bring the loom up to the shop and wired the tail lights. Guess I need to figure out a tag mount; thinking under the bumper right now. Still need to finish wiring the fuel sender and then on to making new offset ends for the tail pipes.

I removed the fuel tank. After I removed that PITA, I started cleaning up a margin around the trunk floor. I'm going to put in a new floor. The existing one has had some horrible, tinny 20230117_190504.jpg patches installed in the last 80+ years. 20230117_190514.jpg

IMG_0842.JPG IMG_0843.JPG With my dual point installation not working out I cleaned up my OEM single point and put it back into service. Now to find a OEM single point tach drive. My stock dist. has the part number 1111100 and looks to be a desirable part so that is a good thing . All installed with about 40 degrees of total timing.
