I believe you are correct.. but all I know it was free!

  2. Saw this one at SEMA, tried real hard to take pictures that didn’t ruin the image of hot Rod greatness as it’s all modern same-same under the beautiful black wrapper!

There was a guy also taking pictures of it and he kept calling it the nicest 57 Chevy he’d ever seen!!!! I thought about moving the sign, but that’s probably frowned upon….

Well.. just a boring post on the project.. boring cause its just the wiring. and I continue.
I am very s l o w at wiring and I triple check my work.... but I do find it relaxing... and in a strange way, I like it.

The wiring will be neatly tidied up in the end and have a factory black tape clean look.Pretty sure we are at the 70% mark so far... rear is done as is the headlight assembly..... Setting up the instrument panel separately and connect towards the end.
At first glance at the underside go the dash before beginning,.. you think there is a ton of space.. but then add the air ducts... glove box, E- brake and hood latch stuff.... real estate becomes scarce....

    anyhow.. rolling forward.

  5. I absolutely love doing the wiring on projects, my favorite part of the build. Glad to see you are picking away at the car.

Want to come to Oklahoma for a week or so and help me and my son wire an Edsel? :D Wiring has to be about my least favorite part of working on these old cars.

First: You find wiring relaxing? Seriously?
Second: Where have you been? This is the best thread here. I follow it religiously. You were gone so long I almost took up drinking. :)
Just can't wait for the "dump the clutch" video.
    Oh, the wiring looks great.

  10. I would in a heartbeat! If I thought I could make a living just wiring cars that’s what I would be doing.

  11. fly me out there with a soldering iron, shrink and a multi meter and it'd be a fun time! would get me out of school too, is "wireitis" a diagnosis?

BTW..I mentioned exhaust,... following a page from @57JoeFoMoPar playbook and leaning on my cheap Scottish heritage.. I dug out the old rear section of the other 57's exhaust system.. A little heat paint and some grinding with a nip and tuck weld..I should be able to use this 2.5 system in combination with the pair of well"seasoned" glass packs.
I will need to pick up some 45 degree bends and a length of straight pipe... but it should be fairly easy.

  13. For a temp exhaust i was going to grab a muffler, strap it in, and dump it before the axle on the drivers side (using the y pipe) the future plan is two true duals, nice long 30 inch glass packs and two small cherry bombs above the axle.

  14. My '59 was the first car I wired 100%. It went pretty well and I made a harness board for it, did all the breakouts up front which helped a ton. I had 1 mis-wire in the tail lights and a solder sleeve come loose on the HL switch. It was around 50 wires total.

You should seek professional help... :p
    I don't mind wiring but I sure wouldn't say it's my favourite!

  16. I feel like if I was seeking help this would be at the bottom of the list of concerns about me.:)

    ha you and me both!!

  18. I have always liked wiring cars. I bought a '64 Caddy around 1975 with a partially fried under hood harness.I also had an OT Mustang with some torn out wiring. Both cars required a trip to the junkyard for "new" wiring and a trip to the library to make schematic copies. Both cars charged right away and everything worked. I'm lucky to have enough patience to do that.

At work in 2013, I was tasked to reverse-engineer a pair of harnesses supplied by a customer we were partnered with. I had to beat the wire-list out of them and questions were slow to answer, the partner was located in the Middle East. One was around 100 wires, the other was 1200 wires. But I did it, I tallied up the hours I had in it, over 900 hours. In the end I supplied the formal wire list (from-to) and the CAD drawings.

Yes.. nothing very exciting to keep tripping on.... Still wiring, still in shrink wrap heaven .....Planning the exhaust... using the trusty glass pack route... will be cutting up an old system.... mostly for mock up...
Trying to find free time,.... is like finding free $$$$.

Looking awesome man. This is the stuff that isn't sexy but if you don't do it right, the car doesn't work.

I know some guys like to hide all this kind of stuff, but I sort of like having it out in the open. Not just because it's easier to work on, but because there is a sort of beauty in the mechanical aspect of the car. It's a machine.

  22. i havent looked on mine, is that front chrome able to be detatched from the rest? i think it would look very neat with a full smoothed steel look like the rest of the dash has.

Jeff is the body currently clear coated? Curious as I'll be leaving the OG paint on the 56 for now and I'll need to do something for a clear coat

No.. I would never clear coat an old paint car.
I simply gave it a very good cleaning with general products.... and I was informed of this product by my European pals in Germany....
Hard to find here but there is a dealer in Miami.... No Silicon in it at all... just simply restores old paint...
Needs very little for a car.. maybe a 1/8 of the can... use very sparingly .... with a clean cloth..... then a light hand buff with another clean cloth.
Easy to find in Europe.... but shipping is ......stupid.

Are you speaking of the heater control panel?
If so.. yes... but I am long past that and I like the way it is.

  26. Getting closer after every lonely night…

  27. got it, makes the build a little bit simpler too.
I do love the way the chrome is on the '57 ford dash, it covers just enough of the dash to be fancy; but not too much that it becomes too over the top, like what some Mopars and a much of GM did in the later 50s. some people like the over the top-ness of those, I've always liked more calm levels of chrome.
