7790D0DB-2F13-442D-B9B7-EEF96F8AB12B.jpeg These cars belonged to some good Friends of my Folks . Dad and Bill have been Friends since High School. I had heard about the cars for years . I finely got to see them 6 years ago . 4 years ago I helped move the cars from where they were parked in 1961 on their Family Farm to a better location. Last Summer Bill pasted away . Last week I was able to buy the cars from Jan . This Saturday with the help of some good friends , one Son in law and my Folks . The cars were loaded up and hauled to their new home . The Merc was parked after the brakes failed and bumped into something. That’s why the hood is black . It had to be replaced.a E1910521-19E3-41F5-85C3-04D0753F2520.jpeg 99C3002D-2662-4F46-BF82-7953E9CFB228.jpeg

8825B39C-0FB1-44C8-87A7-3E66A70DC73C.jpeg Bill had bought the A from a neighbor for $10 when he was 12 years old. It was used on their farm as a pickup . The trunk lid was removed, a wood floor was laid down for a floor and sides were made out of wood . Any where the body developed cracks or fenders were cracked the repair was done with baling wire and a oxygen acetylene torch. After a good cleaning and power washing I put it in a dry place .

The 47 Mercury convertible Bill bought from his Brother in 1958 . I don’t know who added the Edmunds heads and the 2 carb intake . It has a Columbia 2 speed . Bill drove the car through high school and His first year at OSU 21FD46E6-A4AB-4351-A542-4AF947A78791.jpeg the years in the open shed wasn’t kind to the interior or the cloth top . I removed the seats and remaining pieces of the top today . Power washed the cars and put them in dry barns . 71D8A3C2-F925-48F8-8400-5ADCEC027DF1.jpeg more pictures to come

  9. Okay, so they used an old Coke sign. What a concept.

Yes the sign is welded on . They used what was on hand for repairs. The A was a tool to be used .
Still trying to figure out which one to start on . I’ve got a couple of projects to finish up before I start on one of these cars . For now I’m pulling the plugs and soaking the cylinders with atf , spraying bolts , nuts and screws with spray penetrate.

The Coke sign is just too kool! What do you do with it? You cant just primer over it and paint it. I would have to cut it out and keep it for a wall hanger. Just too kool not to do something with it.....

Congrats on the new ownership. I'm thrilled they found a good home.

  19. Served well for years so I think it deserves to be preserved!

  20. Congratulations, you did well. Be thankful, as most of us don't get the opportunity that you did.

Seems @straykatkustoms is a bad influence on us and we are all ending up with Mercs... :D

These are both really cool. The Merc convertible is a gem, I'd love to see pics of the engine.

The A is cool too. If I saw someone fill a roof with a Coke sign today, I'd say it was dorky. But the fact that this one was done probably in the 1950's, and the fact that it's fully welded and not just gooped on, I feel like you've got to preserve that. There's really no paint job you could put on that car that would be cooler than what's on there now.

Dad’s late cousin had 3 Holley chrome 2 barrel carbs that he had sitting on a shelf in his garage . But only 2 air cleaners . He had them on a car he drove in high school. He couldn’t remember who he gave the one air cleaner to . I was able to get the carbs and air cleaners from him several years ago . Looking at the air cleaners on the Merc they are 2 different styles. The front one looks like the ones Keith had . I wonder? I’ve got the carbs at a different place . I need to go get them . Keith was a couple years older than Dad and Bill .
