It is an extraordinary car as well as being yours but, that number 5 is definitely something that makes it even more special. Perhaps the original size and style number followed by a much smaller FRR. I don't have the skill to show an example on here but I'm sure you get the idea.

The car in general. I knew Miles bought it and that the was the last I heard of it.

  4. Welcome back Sam, time has a way of slipping away.

Great to see you got the iconic hot rod back and looking forward to the future updates. HRP

The RR was my first ride in a hopped up roadster and the home fabbed 2x2 intake had a long lasting impression on me. Gotta say, the new RR is a good looking hotrod.

If you weren’t around when it went down, I think you can look it up.

  15. I let Steve s know you started this post. Maybe he will come on and give all the details on his end. Most of us in AZ all knew that Miles had it and were always glad it mostly stayed together.

Great to see you hanging out here again and I'm looking forward to updates.

  18. Journey for sure.

In spite of the twisted panties, I really did try and preserve as much of the original car as I could . The engine was never unbolted from the mount or front crossmember the entire time I had it. Reused the wishbone rear too.

Although I didn’t join the H.A.M.B. until 2006, it’s really because of the Roach Rod (& you) that I started lurking here.

In August of 2001, I moved from Fremont to a town “45 miles East of Frisco”.

Sometime in 2002, I saw the Roach Rod in a local shopping center parking lot (IIRC, it was at OSH). I was checking the roadster out when you returned from the store ... and we struck up a conversation. You told me the build was documented on some forum with a “funny name” … and that you had just participated (or maybe were going to participate) in the R&C Ego-Rama event.

I spent that night scouring the Internet for an automotive website call the “Yam” or some other strange non-automotive related name … and finally stumbled upon the H.A.M.B. and a post or two about the Roach Rod.

For the next 3-4 years I only lurked here (frankly, some of the content and back ‘n forth banter wasn’t my cup of tea) … until @49ratfink talked me into joining the site and sharing some of the images from my father’s archives.

So ... It’s all Sam & Mike’s fault that I post here on The Jalopy Journal Hokey Ass Message Board. :D

This thread is bringing the old Hambers out of the woodwork! Where's Germ? HaHa

  23. Here's a little video on the melding of the Roach Rod into the FRR... I'll be doing some videos to show little details. Hope you enjoy!

  24. Miles, I am very grateful to you for working a deal for me to get it back. I know you didn't have to do it, but you did, and I am thankful! Hope you enjoy the wagon, get out and whack the throttle on it!

I wasn't around yet for this one, but I do recall an equally badass blue street raodster pickup, nothing short of wickidly gnarly! Thinkin' that was one of your creations too, yes?

  26. Yep! All of my cars are connected in one way or another... and the blue Drag Rod was no exception. BBC, four speed, 9 second 140mph street screamer...
Here's a pic of it after the HAMB Drags in Mokan... when I gave Kevin Lee a ride to try and convert him over to liking Chevy engines instead of flatheads. It didn't work... but he had a fun time clutching onto the roll bar at 140+ out on the highway. I vaguely remember hearing screams of "Holy fuck!" drowned out by the open headers on the BBC shifting at 7500rpm...

So cool to see this back in your possession! I remember this build well and the related Rod & Custom articles on it. It was soooooo good to see the rich guys kicked down a notch at the Ego-Rama. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it and extra cool that the Sam-O-Ram is still there.

    Needs Cragars.

  30. The radiator is out of a Mustang. Originally I had a desert cooler radiator I bought at a swap meet for $50. On the first trip around the block with brakes, I throttled it up, and got sprayed with antifreeze! The only thing holding it was two bolts and the radiator hoses. The thing came back into the fan blade and got all torn up!
