Amen to that! He only has a couple of pieces but I always worry about unique items like this that are hard to replicate. He has never lost anything but I still worry.

  3. That license light came out great! Lucky you to have a friend in the chrome biz. He does nice work!
What happened to your avatar? Some guy’s hacked you.

  4. Chrome Tony is only B-B's friend because he spends a lot of $$$ on the other side of the counter.

I retired my xmas avatar, I was looking for one to replace it with and this one popped up.

That and I did a couple loans for him. I have been known to work the angles.

Speaking of friends...and chrome  I picked this piece up the other day and installed it on the dash.

It is the Merc AC face plate I built my AC around. Air deflectors are functional
They even plated the little Mercury god
    upload_2023-1-22_19-0-18.png
I added the little side detail in steel where the chrome arrow point terminates. Why wouldn't I?
    upload_2023-1-22_19-1-33.png
There is not a lot of chrome on the dash of this truck but what is there is fresh and tastefully applied.

From about any angle this is the only view of the Vintage Air AC system, Just a vintage under dash, Merc add on.

This next bit is a work in progress literally. I am building speaker panels to fit the lower section of my doors. A year or more ago I asked @Moriarity if he had any very cool speaker covers and he did, but they were not my style.
Sooo, I had to imagineer and make my own.

There is only 1.75" between the door and the seat riser at the narrowest point (the front of the riser). So, I had to work inside that constraint.

A year ago, I purchased some cool amplifier parts from an online company called, coincidentally... Amplified Parts. The idea was taken from those Bluetooth "marshal" amps you see on guys seats at car shows. Note, they sound very good, but I wanted something installed.
    upload_2023-1-22_19-20-33.png
I wanted mine cooler, unique, attached to the truck (anti theft), more wattage, and quite simply more me.
So, this is the process my mind goes through over a mundane task such as music on board (please remember I am half deaf).

I started making a 1/2" birch plywood panel to fit the door relief and speaker placement (mid and tweeter for those of you I lost already).
    upload_2023-1-22_19-24-2.png
To that I added 3/4", quarter round, hard wood around the outer parameter. After gluing and set time I turned it over, drilled 1/4" holes and glued wood dowels into the quarter-round to secure the molding even further. I also added steel T nuts through the plywood to bolt the speaker and crossovers to. I use a lot of glue, it's a thing I have.
    upload_2023-1-22_19-26-50.png
Then I cut off the extemporaneous (long word of the day, thank you) dowels and sanded them flat. Next up was to paint it black, both for aesthetics and so the spray adhesive had something to cling to (no, I didn't paint it while the speaker was attached...).
    upload_2023-1-22_19-32-7.png
I then wrapped the outside in the fender amp Tolex (hey, if you have to ask...), glued and stapled.
    Top side ^^^^^
    backside

This portion will bolt to the door using Nut Zerts that I sunk earlier.

The speaker cover I built from 3/8" drilled hobby board. I drilled extra holes over the mid-range speaker. I almost trimmed the hole out completely, but I wanted a bit of protection over the speaker than just the grille cloth. The tweeter has a mesh grille.

I cut that panel with enough room for the next step, the grille cloth.
I wrapped the grille panel in black foam and then added the "Fender grille cloth" that I purchased. I promise to take more pictures on the left side door (still to be built).

SS (stainless steel, not super sport @DDDenny ) "Fender corner caps" and metal "Fender logo" emblems complete the look once the grille is installed.
    upload_2023-1-22_20-5-40.png
The grilles are retained with commercial Velcro, I added a "leatherette" pull ring to be able to remove the grilles.
    upload_2023-1-22_20-7-15.png
The "completed but not attached to the door just yet because I had to take a break to watch my Cowboys tank it in San Fran" picture. Oh well, at least this was a win. Rock n roll, hot rods and cute chicks (not necessarily in that order)! Can I get an Amen?!
    upload_2023-1-22_20-19-23.png
You didn't think that I would just slap some chrome Craig speaker covers on the doors and leave it at that now, did ya?
This was the easy side. I am not looking forward to the driver's door (the left one @X38 , the left one!)

  10. Very NICE!
Do those superfluous dowels have you speaking extemporaneously, or is it the Crown?

  17. Oh Billy Billy Billy, spring isn't far enough away for you to keep this up and drive it sometime this summer! I know you like Bling and Detail but we still have a Hood to build! And, No I don't have any forward progress on my little project other than it's about as far apart as everything else I own (remember the condition of your Truck the first time you seen it). I did however push it outside last week to clean up the floor and as promised promptly carved off the M-2 and placed it in the Scrap trailer. I'd post a photo, but it would get kicked due to the A-Frame. However there is a Supercharged 392 sitting on top of the M-2 behind a Radiator just for a test fit and Yes, I can report a Manual Fan will fit even with a 3" blower drive in place without cutting the firewall.

That is pure fact. I have more time in that one speaker than I care to admit and another still to build. Once this is done I can get back to the wiring up of all the components and make it work.

I did get my hood louvered after I worked out that small dent in the center. I took it out to SAR in Gresham and they did 80 3" hot rod louvers in the same pattern I laid out. The patch is done on the side where the rust was (under the brace). I hope to get it in epoxy primer as soon as we have a decent day temp wise, then I can weld the brace back in.

I wish there was a way I could chrome that brace and still be able to weld it in, maybe use SS wire and polish the spot welds? Advice?

Don't try to chrome the brace and weld it with SS wire and polish it, that would work if the you had a polished SS brace and weld it in with SS wire. However you could make the brace into a bolt in and chrome it and bolt it in with SS bolts.

Thanks Dick. I will look at it tonight when I get home from work. Structurally, I think it is best just welded and painted. No one is going to see it unless I'm broke down anyway.

Exactly, but knowing how you love chrome or polished stuff I thought I would suggest a possible option.

You have to admit it would look cool. I sometimes have rein my self in...or keep people around to do so. I still haven't told my wife I louvered the hood. She was pretty adamant about no louvers. I'm thinking she will just forget when she sees how cool it is.

    The hood not the wife.
I have one and she is ok with louvers.:D

I will keep that generous offer in mind buddy, if it comes down to it. I'd miss her but it would be far cheaper to fly her out there than ship the hood.

  27. Maybe avoid pinstriping the tips of the louvers, lol. They will blend right in with the black paint

The outcome was definitely worth it. That was an awesome idea for a speaker cover.
