Henry Ford and Chris Smith were neighbors and buds back in the day. Chris-Craft runabouts and utility boats used Model A steering boxes. A steering wheel from a Chris-Craft is a simple bolt on. BTW, restoring an old wooden Chris-Craft makes hot rodding look cheap.
The Bell wheel and skinny dash is not in your object of desire. The pic is of a 23 T, not the 27 you lust after. PS: Here's a shot of my Chris Craft wheel. A little different than the subject RPU's.
Ok but…and I know I don’t have a ton of room to talk…his head is a solid foot above the windshield, and roll bar.
Super cool little roadster pickup! I agree with Alchemy, that last dash/steering wheel photo appears to be a different car.
I think you guys might be right... THANK god!!!! My faith has been restored. I wonder if Hot Rod just got the negs screwed up? Easy enough to do as I just did it... I know Dick built a super modern '32 for the GNRS a decade or so ago. Anyone know if he's still around? I would love to talk to him.
I've been to dozens, likely hundreds of rod events and cruise nights. The best question a non rodder has ever asked was, "how do you know when you've gone over the top?" I thought that was very perceptive and have considered it every time I think about making a small change to my rod since the nice lady asked it.
This style R.P. was mega popular in the 60's. One of my favorite's was the Jim Miller/Frank Wootz Arden powered one that graced the cover of Hot Rod twice in its life as well as the cover of Rodder's Journal #69. It went through many changes over its life to the point there is a correct restoration of it in first cover form (oct 55) and its last run version. Ya gotta love a Roadster Pickup!
