I've owned 1 conv in my long time on the road. I've driven more than I can recall. The difficulty for me is the top when its raised. They're fuckin noisy. Cabriolet types, add whistling windows to the mix at anything but senior citizen speeds. Those are my issues, not many others have them that chase nothing else. Now here's a twist, my dumb ass shagged another shovelhead. When I want open air motoring that checks the box. To be honest I'm not planning any multi-day 500 plus round trip rides. But a squirt here n there, my short drive to the shop, a warm clear night, I'm in. And it takes up waaay less real estate so there's that, for me anyways, my roadster cure.

I guess I’m a wuss. Had one convertible, don’t ever want another. Seemed like there were only about 5 days in the spring and 5 in the fall where the temps were perfect to drive with the top down. The rest of the time it was either too cool or too hot. It looked cool with the top down, was fun to drive, but I prefer windows up and ac on.

Sometimes I look at pics of roadsters and think, man, it’d be cool to build and drive one. Then memories of that convertible come back to me, and I remember why I sold it.
OK, I’m a wuss. I said it. But I’d rather be a comfortable wuss than a miserable open car owner!

Bought a Model A roadster one day.
Sold it 2 days later. Too small of a interior to me. Maybe a larger car would work but that car cured the lust for me

The posted photo would let the future buyer know what was under the primer. Is the car original to the frame under it? Put the hood sides back on, prime it, collected the money, build or buy a Roadster.

  6. Looks better rusty
    And I’d pay more unprimed.
Saves me work from having to strip off primer.

For me a 32 roadster is IT and would drive one daily if winter weather wasn't a issue and wasn't channeled. I had plans to build another 32 roadster unchanneled to be the summer daily. I have collected 75% of original 32 roadster parts ...
I have closed hotrod 32s but don't really drive them much
I drive the closed cars when the wife doesn't want her hair messed up lol.

Can't go wrong with a Barillaro built chassis, I saw this one at their shop a few days ago. Although I think you would regret selling the sedan, I would try to find another source of funds. 20230127_145803.jpg

When I started gathering parts for a model A, I was planning to build a coupe- they look so cool. I found a roadster cowl and I eventually found the rest to build a roadster. All the while I was still pining for a coupe. A roadster is much like a 4 wheel motorcycle, wide open and a blast to drive. I plan on having a roadster in my life forever. No cure for roadster lust

  12. Thanks again for some good advice, you guys.

I really don’t have the funds to build a separate frame and then fork over more for a Brookville.
I would like to be driving a roadster with a wash, or close to one, on the cash outlay.
And yes I could sell the sedan complete, but by the time I got in the loop at Barillaro’s for a chassis, I foresee it being another year to being on the road.
Why do I get myself in these dilemmas? Wait, I know. Roadster lust and a lack of self control.

If it's in your blood then do it. I get it.

  15. So to answer your original question yes there is a cure. Take a ride on a coup on a bad day and buy a bike. LOL (sorry I am just being an ass) My dad was a sucker for a roadster.

Now I have not done it for myself but I did lift a bitchen sedan off of a '31 A and drop a '28 roadster body in its place. A friend owned a Vic Sedan and hated it after he built it and peddled the Vic to buy a roadster. So off came everything from the firewall back and frame up and one went the other sheet metal. That is the beauty of the Ford from '40 down is that everything used the same chassis in a give year/model.

I cannot say anything about financing I never ask anyone about that. But I think it is doable. I may keep an eye out for an original, you may find one cheaper that the Brookfield. That is worth looking into. A beater roadster would be slicker than greased owl chit.

BTW roadsters are cool but way down on my personal list. But I would dig the chit outta yours.

  16. Well, I found a cure!

Right here on the HAMB. Straight across swap.
Real B’ville with cowl vent, hinges, trunk, 3 inch whack, flat floor, Wise Guy seat with foam and 5 hours away.
Just missing handles and wood tack rail.
I’m giggling like a little girl.:D Old men and their late in life fantasies.
    Even my wife seems pleased.

I had the itch and the time so I solved my itch by building this one.

I like where this is headed! If you have an itch, scratch it! What harm can it do? I think Tiger Woods said that but I am not positive.

  21. Happy motoring, Daddio. When you get it going, be sure to take a little video of yourself putting around on a pretty back road. That’s a good way to scratch that roadster itch.

Have a HAMB thrash. We used to do them back in the early days. A bunch of hambers show up with their tools, ready to work. You host the event, buy the burgers and feed the masses. I would come and help.

  25. Having know Randy Nash for many years i can honestly say he was anal when it came to '32 Fords, It had to be honest to God real henry Ford sheet metal, he wouldn't settle for any repop bodies, Glass or steel, He wouldn't put any one down for having a repop but he just wouldn't have one himself, me it really wouldn't matter.

When I had my Westcott body roadster I had a lot of people ask if it was steel or glass, it looked like the real thing all the way down to the cowl vent,

I may have not been real but it was real fun. HRP

As a matter of fact we did take it camping a few times.
A friend of mine worked in the Chrysler parts distribution center and brought home a new minivan converta bed that was deemed non-sellable only because some dust got under the plastic wrapping, I got it for $200, was probably a $2,000 unit.
It fit like it was meant for it but the thing sounded like a cave in there, now that I think about it, I had often wanted to "do it" in a cave!;)
