I’m watching a show featuring the story of Apollo 11 showing the efforts to put man on the moon. Geologists take a group of astronauts out for training and they go to Hawaii, but what does this have to do with hot rodding? Well on a volcano that was selected to simulate the surface of the moon one of the group is wearing a bright yellow jacket with, it you haven’t guessed yet, Moon Eyes and Dean’s Moon Equipped logo. There wasn’t any mention of names so I have no idea if he was an astronaut, geologist, or engineer.
I spent some time looking on the world wide web for this above mentioned photo. No luck was to be had. I did find this photo, thou: (Note Apollo 11 was after the year 1965).
I went back and fast forwarded through the program, I found it available on the Discovery Channel, but I had watched it on the Science Channel Sunday night. Here are two screen shots taken from my television, looks like I was wrong, the man in the Moon windbreaker was none other than Jim Lovell.
That's a pretty cool catch, I'll have to watch it again. Also, remember, GM supplied the high profile astronauts with the hottest new Corvettes, going back to the days of the Mercury project, delivered through Indy winner Jim Rathmann's Chevy dealership.
