Solid complete car - Great Score.

Is that charcoal paint or primer ? Inside deck lid looks shiny. If painted. will it come back to life ?

  6. Congrats, @anthony myrick !!! :cool::cool::cool: Nice score!

D'you ever look at a big, roomy, 4 door car and wonder how many people were made in that back seat? :p

Remember, kids. Accidents cause people. :D

  7. Well maybe not. I had a student tell me his girl friend was pregnant. Said it was an accident. I handed him pencil and paper and asked him to draw the diagram how you accidentally have sex.

  8. Nice work Anthony, now you have a bus and a boat, this should be fun.

  9. Found this car on marketplace. I have a 50 4 door that’s been in my shop for the past 18 years waiting on me to stop working on other crap. Not a bad car but not close to this one. Especially the interior. So I made up my mind to sell it and concentrate on a couple in process projects.
So this 51 pops up. Sent the guy a message and we texted back and forth. He sent pics and we even face timed while he went over the car with me.
Never talked $$$ until I seen more of the car.
A big hurdle was I’m currently between trucks after selling one. Haven’t built it’s replacement yet plus still needing to get my trailer going. The car was 350 miles away.
I sent a couple pics to friends to ask opinions. One said grab my trailer the other said he had a truck for sale that I could use all I wanted.
Both pieces I needed to grab it came up without asking.
The guy that had it had a very cool shop. Old round track guy. Shop packed full of race parts, jigs, tools. Had a killer jig table and English wheel.
Super nice guy. He treated the wife and I for a burger at a nearby restaurant

The night before, I checked out a nice 50 2 door. Good car. I know the owner well. I sent him pics of the 51 to ask opinions and he told me to come and look at his.

good solid car. Original chassis, drums, 351C hooked to a 3 speed.
Will need rocker skins if you were going to paint it.
    Old but cared for interior.
It’s “not for sale but if you want it I’ll take xxxxx”
Honestly, I really want a 51 and I can get to where I want with the one I bought.
Almost backed out the night before. Picked up the phone to tell the guy I changed my mind. But the wife said it’s just another road trip. Go check it out and then you’ll know.

It was redone when the interior was done, more than likely. The headliners were originally all cloth back then.

Hopefully you can get the flathead running…drop the ass…install skirts, buff out the paint and drive it. Do rockers next winter!
If the flathead needs too much $$$…do the SBC…low buck, very common traditional swap from when the Merc was 10 years old…60 years ago!

Okay Anthony I’m callin “no fair!” How come a guy like you who has all the skills in the world lays his hands on a car that is in such great shape and us that are not as skilled get cars with lace for body panels!!! Oh wait, I guess it’s karma for being a teacher...

  17. Well, if I had all those “skills” I should have built this first one I bought
    807BDAF0-DD9E-4939-B97A-13D77C1C3530.jpeg
Needs the entire bottom 12 inches of the car plus a few spots above that. Looked a little better 25 years ago but I bought it when I was much less skilled or my ambition out weighed my talent.
“karma”. Too soon in the process to use that term.
But the guys that helped be go get it, I’ve helped them several times.

Knowing when to walk away is a skill all in itself. :D
I'm slowing learning it - seems to be directly proportional with the how creeky my back is becoming.

  20. You put enough students in it, the stance is about right. :D That’s how my 56 looks best too.

  25. I like the shot of student doing bump and dolly work with 2 hammers, and not body hammer. Deft touch with what you have, and knowing what to do, gets the job done

    Good looking project. Congrats

  27. I don’t own lots of hammers.
Maybe 4 body hammers with some ball peens and sledges.
A few dollies and some homemade stuff.
A couple pics, stud gun and shrink disc.
I do most with a couple different size ball peens.
Wouldn’t mind having tons of hammers like those pro guys have.
    Maybe one day
