I need the spring center bolt spacing on a 54 3100 so I can install new perches on a rear end. I know the pin is offset to the front about an inch. I don't have the original rear end here to measure. thanks in advance

I need the distance between the two, one side to the other. Thanks for your info too.

Okay, the truck is not available to me right now, but I have a rear end here I am building for it. I want to get this rear end built, and take to where the truck is and install it. There is no welder where the truck is. There is one where the rear end is. So if I can find the distance between the spring center bolts I can weld them on here and take it there to install it. That way I can install the spring perches before I weld the ends on.

How are you planning on setting the pinion angle?

I honestly don't know the distance between the spring bolts when everything is in place. I haven't had stock springs under my truck since 1980 so that is part of it. I don't have a stock torque tube rear end around to measure either.

If the springs are under the frame, ,both front and rear, I think on Sid’s sit he has the center to center distance on the front axles. The frames are parallel, so that info should be the same front/rear.
But the other thing is, there may not be a welder in the area, but there has to be a tape measure near by. Or is this something that you’re retrieving in a remote area and just need something under it to load it?

AD frames are not parallel, narrower at the front, can someone near the truck measure for you?
also, if the spring/shackle bushings are shot, you mite not get the correct measurement.
and how do you know where to put the hole for the spring pin to center the wheels in the fender?... and get pinion angle correct?

...take your rearend to the truck, temporarily mount it so you can move the truck, then bring it to your shop and work on it.

I have already measured the pinon angle off the old rear end. With what I learned here I should be able to get it right. Thanks for all the help.
