Hot Rods 32 Fords for sale, why so many?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56don, Feb 11, 2023.

  1. I just browsed the classifieds and there where 11 1932 Fords for sale just on the first page. I found that interesting. Are they losing their popularity ?

Always a lot of 32's changing hands over the years. I've sold 3 finished 32 hot rods in the last year. Have built and sold over 25 32's over the years. Still have 3 finished and 1 project 32 in my collection. If you think there's a lot on here check E-Bay. This hobby is not dying. Did you see the crowds at the GNRS? I talked to a parts distributor who sells ASC deuce and 33/34 rails and because of freight he bought what was usually a 2 year supply and was out in 6 months. Brookville is busy, local machine shop always has a customer Flathead in the works, waiting list at H&H, waiting list at most manufacturers. Since I retired from the chassis business a year ago I've turned down between 40 & 50 chassis orders. Contrary to the Nay Sayers over all things are good.

Now is the time if you want/need a 32, IMO the market has dropped due to many of us aging out. I had one, enjoyed it, sold it 7 years ago, got top $$ but I sometimes regret that decision and have resisted the urge to buy another so far. At 75 years young one thing I know for sure,"Never say Never." CarCrazy till my expiration date. LOL

Age out and health problems I would guess are the main reasons.

  5. Cashing in ,before people realize there a dime a dozen and way overpriced

  7. There may be some truth to that. But I know I will never sell mine, its not the monetary value of it to me, its value to me is because its "my car". I don't really care if the bottom drops out of the market.

Aging out may have something to do with it, but doesnt explain all of it. I think it's gonna get worse.

I have to agree with that comment as I have a car or two that my widow or kids will sell

The new generation who all have super computers in there hand all day,
just aren’t interested in old cars all that much, combined with the eminent death of gasoline in a new green world.

guy told me never sell your 32. I bought an old 5 window hot rod a while back the bottom is probably going to drop out of the market. but to answer your question . some guys I know have passed on & others in nursing homes and diminishing health. some have been sold a couple have been inherited & have not moved

  13. That is actually gonna take a while.

Sometimes it may be to just pay the rent. I have sold a car or two over the years to just pay the bills. Life would be easier if it would just stay the hell out of the way. ;)

  15. I have already made arrangements for everything. Tools have a home, spare parts getting distributed between a handful of younger men, have one man in charge of distribution. Granddaughter has already spoken for family rod.

Unlike most of the people reading this I started thinning my stuff out several years ago. I may live a long time, or I may not. I am basically ready unless I go before summer is over, that be the case granddaughter will be getting the family rod on the road. She knows what to do.

We are all getting older. I will be selling mine as I have no kids to leave them to

  18. Simple..... they're OLD cars!! You buy a new SUV, drive it off the lot and BINGO! You just lost $12K. Now imagine if you plug that same formula into a 91 year old car! MASSIVE depreciation! Old used cars just aren't worth the same as a new virgin otto-mobile.... basic economics! People are selling their old worn out shit so they can buy new. YOMV

At 78 I've started to get things organized. I have someone coming to take my storage building full of left overs from 40+years in the chassis business. Am currently making arrangements to put my deuce 3 window avatar and deuce highboy roadster in a museum. I'll keep my new deuce highboy sedan and 40 coupe to drive. The project roadster may never get finished. My shop full of tools, welders and more parts are next. I'll probably let the lift and frame table go with the house? I'm not planning on dying soon but with as much stuff as I've accumulated you gotta start sometime.

  20. Age and health has a lot to do with all the 32 Fords for sales, and someone is always looking for a Deuce.

I own them as investments, and I usually have a “rule of three “. When I sell something I need to get at least three times the price for it. Anyone want to come buy some original owner 32’s?

Most of those comments are true, it is a cyclical kind of deal but one thing I feel contributes to the ongoing movement of cars are the car "flippers" that have dirtied up the market, these are the guys that strictly see dollar signs, buy a car, don't do much but maybe change the wheels and sell for profit.
I realize it's how things work but I hate seeing the way these guys can impact this thing most of us call a hobby, I've seen a few here on the HAMB and it seems that's the only reason they are here.

  23. Ive been waiting for you old guys to die off and the price to drop for 15+ years...still doesn't look like any time soon. You guys just don't see all the younger guys doing this because we're not on here as much. In my opinion The Jalopy Journal and the hamb are in more danger of dying off than the 32 Ford. Message boards are old news at this point.

  24. As someone who buys and sells cars and parts, the flip side is, the parts need to get to market. And sometimes the only way is to buy it all at once and sell it over time. Which is a massive investment of labor, time, and space. A few of my deals were done, because I was the only guy willing to deal with the logistics of moving large car and parts hoards. Some people don't want to deal with a bunch of guys and the numerous flakes you'll get if trying to piece it out individually. I've bought stuff for pennies in the dollar, because it would have gone to scrap otherwise. Am I the bad guy for making money on my investment of time, labor, space, and knowledge?

I've talked myself out of 32's. My '28 Tudor and stock '29 A coupe fill the bill for me! :)

It’s like that insurance commercial, it’s all about price, price, price.
While there are people who can afford the prices asked for 32’s, there’s many more that can’t. The ones that can are generally older, and they aren’t into toys like cars and boats, they are more into investments like real estate and businesses that will make them more money.
Sellers price high, then the smart ones drop to more market prices, the profiteers and stubborn ones sit on them, clogging the market.
It’s not that they are any less popular, it’s the affordability is much less now than it was even a year or two ago, the old dollar just doesn’t go as far as it did.

No, and I knew there would be responses similar to yours, I don't know you but you probably do work for it and earn what profit you make, that's the difference, you earn it.
That's not how the "flipper" mindset works, that old saw mantra of "don't work hard for your money, make your money work hard for you" never was instilled in me.
It's never been more than a hobby for me, though it has been a defining lifestyle.
I've never been involved in a car where I even came close to breaking even let alone making a profit, if I did I would actually think I wasn't having enough fun.

I'm not an E-Bay fan but occasionally there's a 32 for sale that is priced right. Currently there's been a couple 32 Highboy sedans on there from a high end collection in Florida that are very high quality and have not sold? Also a really nice chopped deuce 3 window highboy from the same collection that's a little pricey but is really nice. Surprised it hasn't sold.

@alchemy when I saw rule of three I thought you were going to say when you sell one you buy 3 to replace it.

I have noticed several of these people selling cars on the HAMB… when I check out their posts to see if they had any build info or whatnot that could give you a little background info on the car…they have never made a post at all…just selling multiple cars at a time
