Your duals, based on horsepower, would need to be no bigger than 1-3/8 in diameter, each, if not just 1-1/2in.

While you can find mandrel bends normally used for header primaries in that size, I am not too sure that there will be much in the way of mufflers.

I bought stainless J-bends and made a header for the A engine in my avatar. The SU carb mounts are part of the header

Can you vouch for the place? A few things caught my eye. Shipping in July-ish, non refundable deposit.
Pics look nice of what they had for sure.
The required non refundable deposit could just be what’s needed to make a minimum run at a foundry, but if not enough players get in the game…

I can vouch for Secrets of Speed...aka Scalded Dog Speed Parts. Charlie Yapp operates this and it's just that casting costs are such that he needs a minimum for a run. He has a discerning eye and everything that I have ever gotten from him has been top drawer. The cast iron headers are an option for going dual exhaust, if you don't have fabrication skills. Give Charlie a call, he is always happy to talk bangers

  10. Gimpy,

I bet he could find smaller diameter mufflers by searching European/Japanese imports and/or motorcycles

Probably should mention that the cast iron headers sure do retain and radiate a lot of heat may or may not be a concern for you

Freeing up the exhaust on these engines make a world of difference. You can feel the difference if only by replacing the stock muffler with a cheap turbo muffler. It makes noise, too. That's always fun. :)

  13. I have also always been happy with him.

Sure, but the aftermarket ones are too big, and the OEM ones don't look good.

If it's an open wheel highboy, it is harder to hide stuff.

Adapters could be used, or if room available, maybe a MC muffler?

What do you mean cheap turbo muffler?
I have a stock banger that could use a little more pep in its step.

Walker, Dynomax, etc. Anything labeled as a "Turbo Muffler".

They are of a similar type that OEM's put on sporty cars, so that they sounded more sporty, often on the turbo cars.

A turbo tends to smooth out the exhaust note. With a conventional muffler, a turbo car might actually sound less sporty.

Not sure why you'd want twins on a 4 banger? It might sound like a strangulated fart.

Also poor performance. 4 into two into one maybe for scavenging..... strange that the original thread started has not posted since.

I am running a straight pipe after the header on my avatar. Model B cam, Pertronix, SU carbs, timing strip for a timing light, hi compression head and the straight pipe sounds the same as the original muffler. Its not any louder

On my stockish banger with a six to one head, downdraft intake and a 4 into 1 header the straight pipe was just too much and annoying, so I ended up putting a 12-in gl*** pack in there and it sounds pretty good. Just my results

First thing I thought was Citroën DS19. Those made much of the FWD flat floor, and so some iterations had two small pipes instead of one bigger one all the way through, to save height. Looks a bit newer than it is, though:

Aftermarket versions are a bit prettier:

IMG_3871.JPG IMG_3794.JPG Red's Header in my avatar. The header ends in two separate pipes that run to the rear through 2 gl***packs. Definitely changes the sound from a stock Model A.

Honestly--- make something that is visually appealing. Unless you established a header baseline and dyno each one there is not going to be a really big difference---- Noise does not equate more HP, because of the sound note, you tend to drive it harder thus thinking you made more power

That's a non-US car, so that part would need to be imported, should the OP be in the US.

I am running a 97 on an Ansen intake with a 6:1 head. The Red's headers go through 1.75 pipe to a set of Porter's. From there I use flex pipe to the rear under the box. It breathes great and has a fantastic sound without being too loud. The RPU is currently apart getting it's T5 but I drove this setup all last summer.

Had a single 2.25 on my stock engine and sounded rowdy. Have dual 2.25 on a home built A engine, sounds wicked. Made 120hp to the wheels on the dyno so I think it breaths just fine.
