History Anyone recognize this 60’s, Orange, Channeled ‘34 5 Window from New England?

Working on this intake… had to do a mock-up!

 

I've run that same x2 on my car with the outer 4 carbs hooked up and center as dummys.great throttle response!mine is 10-1 and 354 ci

 

Thanks for the info! I’ve been wondering about how to set it up. I’d been thinking about starting with the center two, then going to the outer 4 like you. This one ended up being a 400, and around 10-1 as well. What’re you running for a cam?

 

I've got a comp Thumper cam in mine but I guarantee there's other stuff that's better than that LOL. I first started out with the center two working when I had my stock 55 287 motor in it. When I rebuilt my 347 to 354 and put it back on and then hooked up the outside for to work but never did hook all of them up at the same time as I tried a couple other different intakes

 

Man, I’m starting to regret selling some of my old Pontiac stuff as I follow along on this thread. I had an X2 and a log style 6x2 for Pontiac’s that sure would be cool in my 40 Merc about now...

Anyway, still loving this car!

have a friend here in Houston with a warehouse full of Pontiac stuff

 

It took a little while, but I worked out a deal on the last two scoops. Picked up two new O’Brien Trucker scoops and swapped them for the missing pair. My friend Randy Haubrich had all 6 of these, but was using the other two on his Caddy powered ‘32 coupe. Now I just need to rebuild everything and figure out my linkages!

To be honest, I’m not sure what it’s from. I bought the grille how you see it. It was sectioned 6”, and the insert and bar that goes around was added, and then it was rechromed. I’m told it came off a east coast heavily channeled ‘34 roadster from the 50’s.

So I just couldn’t leave the intake full, and I’ve started to polish it…. What a project! I’ve got it sanded out to about 1000, a few more steps to go.





So when I ran the car in the fall, I had trouble with oil blowing out the breathers. I wanted to do something with the breathers and decided on these new Moon ones. Very nicely made! I had a friend plane off the fins around it, I’m digging how they look!

 

Intake looks great. Bet you have some hours in that! Clean look on the breathers too.

Had a blast this weekend up at the Northeast Vintage Drags in Oxford Maine! Made a half dozen passes, went pretty good! Excited to come back next year!

I finally got my ass in gear and starting rebuilding carbs and setting up the intake… A week ago! Ended up working pretty good. Swapped the intake Thursday night, took off for Maine Friday night…. just couldn’t stand looking at the old two barrel on there!

Love that car. It has so much bad ass attitude.

 

Nothing too impressive yet, did a half dozen passes, best was 9.8 seconds in the 1/8th mile at 71MPH. She’s definitely got more potential, gotta dial it in for next year!

Had the coupe out over the past weekend, looks good sitting out in the sun!

Unfortunately still being plagued by clutch problems! Fortunately it’s not from slipping, but rather not being to fully disengage the clutch and trouble getting into gears.

Coupe was built with a ‘60 International pickup brake/clutch master that was chromed back in the day. Wanted to preserve it, so I sent it out to White Post restorations. Been having trouble from the get-go, but it’s gotten worse. I’ve always had problems getting in to gear, and then it started leaking out the back around the piston.



Didn’t want to give up on it, so I checked out the master a little closer. It looks like the piston and snap ring are recessed an 1/8th more for the clutch vs the brake. I ended up trying it with the snap ring taken out (pedal push rod keeps it from coming out too far) and that seemed the best, but still leaked.





The leaking persisted (sometimes it wouldn’t leak while driving, other times it’s leak quite a bit of fluid). So I tried an aftermarket master cylinder. Seemed to work OK testing in garage, but after the first test run, same old story- hard to fully disengage. Usually have to pump it multiple times to get int gear.

Another issues is that when bleeding, I always get a ton of air. As in there couldn’t possibly be that much air in the system. Perhaps sucking air from the slave (also rebuilt by White Post), or maybe from the bleeder.

Frustrating scenario. I’m tempted to pull the trans and go to a fully hydraulic throwout bearing. But it bugs me not using it “how it was built”, and even more so that it’ll work OK sometimes, and then after driving it gives me problems!

 

Is your pushrod rubbing the bottom of the piston pocket when you push it? Could it be side loading (on the bottom of the piston) and be deforming the seal?
