Making some progress with my hood install. I have the hood pin ( SBC head bolt ) roughed in on the passenger side, now on to the drivers side. IMG_0884.JPG

  2. Took a few pictures, scoop on , painted white. Brings out my white block and white detailed valve covers. I am satisfied with it. It is a very old fiberglass scoop and took a lot of work to bring it back to where it is . Not perfect, but good enough for this old drag car, matches my imperfect old girl just fine, LOL. Cleaning caked on, 60 year old gear lube sucks. Being able to do it outside in Northern Ohio in February because it's 50 degrees and sunny doesn't suck.

  4. Finally found time to weld up, blast, paint, and install the offset tailpipes on our '47. Had to shorten the pencil tips and now they don't stick into the bumper guards. Made a new cover for the fuel sender as I lost or maybe never had one. Just need to blast and paint it.

  5. I traded a 1/4 cord of old firewood that I wasn't using for a 4-71 that I probably won't use either lol
But it'll be nice to look at

I installed a 400 pound hoist up in the rafters to lift the body up and down about 300 times. This will make building this a lot easier .

Pulled the 283 out that's full of rust and water . Cut the crappy mounts out that were bowing the frame rails outward and got a crossmember type mount that can handel some real HP and stiffen the chassis up ready to install about a 1/2" further back so the water pump is not almost hitting the new NOS thicker 27 T Walker radiator that I just scored .
That and tripped over extension cords , air hoses , shop heaters and the stray cat .
Some how my plans went from a 120 HP chevy 4 to about a 600 HP 413 SBC that's slated for the altered project but can get tested and tuned in this in the mean time .

I would trade several cords of wood for 8-71.

  12. He said he had a plate he machined to move the 8-71 forward on a sbc so he could get the mag in, he used to race a dragster for several years.

  13. Today I swapped a bunch of rims around checking clearances before deciding on ordering the 4 inch tub or the 2 3/4 tub from Dan Carpenter, I chose the 2 3/4.

I spent three days on the interior of my ‘46 Chevy coupe. I pulled the mouse nest interior. Scraping and painting floors in preparation for new sound deadener and carpet, painting lower dashboard, and heater box. I also removed the passenger quarter window for replacement and vacuumed the mouse nest out of the drain trough, then cleaned and painted the track and blasted nearly an entire rattle can down into the trough. I’ll do the other one next. 916D5242-8743-4DD0-9C18-CCD25DD6EEFA.jpeg 52CC30DC-7E01-49FC-8EC8-D0261A3A6D86.jpeg 20D91688-F347-45A1-AC4D-36C4517FCC62.jpeg 5431E782-9767-4970-A950-472BDCD9B941.jpeg

OK, perspective on this one please.
My 49 truck is my winter ride. I live in the northwest corner of IL, we get snow, and they salt the roads.
We got between 6" and 11" of snow last Thursday, depending on where you lived, and how much got blown away from, or to, you.
The truck is covered with salt, and the snow has been melting since Sat. Its getting washed tomorrow, the roads are finally getting dry. Nothing planned for today, so why not a road trip? Lets say, around 100 miles?
I even took a few pictures with my wife's cell phone, and was able to get them onto my computer. (That is a pretty big deal around here.)
The first 2 are from what is suppose to be the 2nd highest point in northern IL, I'm taking their word on it.
The 3rd one is the road ahead a few miles later. I thought I had a couple more, but couldn't find them on the 300+ pictures she has on her phone.
The 4th is some guy's yard art. We were pulled over off the road, with no other traffic, but some guy still about crashed into us, so we thought better of taking any more pictures.
Anyway, it as good just to get out of the house and out of town on this nice sunny 50 degree (but windy) day. Thought I'd share a little.

We let the glaciers from time long past squished most of them flat!:D

If you are referring to my Avtar pic, that pic was taken on our trip through the Rocky Mountain National Park in CO on May 29, 2016 (the 2nd day after the mountain pass was opened for the summer). The point the picture was taken is near the top visitor center, 11,000 feet above sea level. The coupe (which is now red and white) was on a 2800 mile round trip. The car had been driven over 90,000 miles since 2012.

As far as IL, we have "hills" up here in the north west corner. The closer you get to the Mississippi River, the north 1/2 of the state is hilly, the southern 1/2 is flat. The eastern side of the state is flat as well. IL is 600 miles long and 120 miles wide. When you get towards the central IL, they barely even have hills, you see the road vanish into the horizon without even seeing a break or a bump in the road surface. If you're in the middle of IL and don't like the scenery, drive 100 miles in any direction, and everything will be different.

Fixed the oil leak on my YBlock (yeah right). After fighting one from the external oil pump area determined it was high pressure back feeding the outside tubing seal. Lowered the pressure by adding a spacer washer to the external nut. 3 days and not even evidence of a drip forming. At 78 I don’t relish being under a car but don’t trust anyone to fix its problems. Now on to the clock and laying under the dash…….again.

  26. My templates worked out good, just need a fch off the edges to get the aluminum to relax, but it's a nice tight fit. I'll bend a couple aluminum straps for the middle support and some outside edge "L" brackets to attach the panels to.

I am still chipping away at my hood install, I sure don't want it flying up smacking the roof. I had to do a little metal reshaping to clear the bracing. I do get tired of welding rust though ! IMG_0901.JPG IMG_0899.JPG

Was making steady progress thru last Oct, but got side tracked when my brother pulled me out of retirement to repair/paint/do floors etc on a house he bought. That kept me buzy November and December. did not help that
my pickup got hit head on by someone who fell asleep at a red light. January I had covid, could not do my exercises
and thru out a disc in my back. Going for a shot in the back tomorrow, hoping to get some relief so I can get back to it.
