My friend Brent McMullin, who has handled all of my body work for over 30 years, came today to undercoat the '40 pickup cab and fenders. I love it when everything goes as planned. IMG_9927.JPG IMG_9931.JPG IMG_9933.JPG IMG_9934.JPG IMG_9945.JPG

I used that Raptor liner on the bottom of my cab as well as the seat riser. That stuff goes on nice!

And below that in Central Oregon in a few days, maybe 0 at night! That's just a couple days after the predicted 55 degrees tomorrow.

IMG_9979.JPG Back on the '29, one of my all time pet peeves is the painted white letters on drag slicks. The paint they use can be a struggle to get cleaned off without damaging the rubber. I used some wax and grease remover and maroon Scotch bright, to get them clean. I haven't had the truck on the floor for sometime, and after I dropped it down, I decided to cap off the shortened windshield posts, and check that off the list. Yes, getting the white lettering off is a big improvement. Like the simplicity of the post caps, too.

Sorry for the duplicate pictures, I just checked my internet speed, the download is 0.14 mps. One of the joys of living in the country.

Mike, the Shroud line will attach to the rear axle. Tonneau on the bed only, and the windshield is Lexan. Thanks for your interest.

Laid out the hood pattern last night, going to transfer it to some .063, 3003 aluminum today. IMG_9983.JPG IMG_9986.JPG IMG_9985.JPG IMG_9987.JPG IMG_9990.JPG IMG_9991.JPG IMG_9993.JPG IMG_9994.JPG

OK, it's 2 hours later, and this is what I got accomplished. After getting the lines transferred, I started by trimming the line across the back and then the front. After filing and sanding the edge on the rear, it was time to run it through the rolls, concentrating on the rear center profile. Then back and forth to the rolls until it lays down pretty good. I need to get a cowl lacing before I can go any farther. At that time I will tune up the entire fit and trim the front, before folding the sides under, for a 1/2" flange on both sides, the mounting will be Dzus fasteners. I am contemplating a scoop or a bubble in the center for air intake, as the stacks are pretty close the the hood. Good Day ! I got a cowl lacing kit, now I need to figure out the best way to install it. I believe all 28-29 body styles that used the same tank (not including Murray Bodies) require the same procedure. Any input would be great.

Don’t they originally have a wire that fits down the center of the groove and holds the welt in?

Jeff, I think there is hook to draw the center down tight.

I mean the wire runs the whole width of the gas tank. The hook in the middle holds the wire and welt down for clearance of the center hinge. But I might be imagining things.

I understand rolling it to fit the Cowl, but how does one achieve the tighter radius at the front (grill shell)?
Cool build Marty, make that cool builds…when will the Track T get some more love?

If you notice the first picture the roll is parallel to the centerline, and the next time it is at an angle to the centerline. That allows for the taper over the distance front to rear. With 3 rollers, two are stacked, and the the back one adjusts up at an angle, allowing to roll one end tighter than the other for a different radius on each end. What I couldn't show in the pictures, is how I clamp the piece in the brake, to hold it, while I hand form each end to fit the shape of the vehicle. As far as the Track Roadster, it will have to wait until I get the '29 ready to race, and the COE completed to haul it. BTW, I am thinking of the name I will paint on the hood sides, when it is in competition livery. It will contain the word "Bone", as that was the man's last name on the title, when I bought it. It is truly an "A-Bone". IMG_0023.JPG

I started on the hood scoop tonight, got it roughed in. It needs more shaping at the rear, before shortening in height and length.
