My good friend Phil in the 65 and me in the 63. Both former Arlen Vanke cars. My mom, wife, sister and two sons in the stands. IMG_1228 (2).JPG

I’ve seen the 65 before, nice car. The 63 looks familiar, was it ever at the MoPar Nats in Columbus?

Probably where I saw it. The Nats of the 80s was incredible fun and some great cars still being driven before they became retirement funds. Rare Hemi cars cruising Brice was common. One year, I think in 87, a guy had his 64 Race Hemi Plymouth on a flatbed on Brice, he would fire it up and do a burnout on the bed while his buddies drove the truck then shut down again. Fun times. Even the Cops gave him a thumbs up.

I didn't realize it was posted before, the car is a tribute to the original.

Woah! Where did that come from? The original Flying Dutchman Belvedere was sold to some guys in Wisconsin and lost to the mists of time. Someone did a repro of the '68 Charger flopper with the approval of the Vander Woude family, but I didn't know someone redid the '64.

I've lost contact with Donnie and the rest, so don't know how to confirm what it is.

Dutchman savoy looks like a really nice tribute. Car has the radically altered wheelbase right up to the door. Did the og have a back bumper? Might as well make some hits if it's a clone:D:D

Picture of the original with out a rear bumper, but notice the similar excessive rolled wheel opening behind the slicks on both this picture and post #2465

It was on there shortly after the conversion before he went from carbs to injectors:

A couple of observations about this image: Al used the same Howards wheels on the trailer as on the car and he was using a '64 Fury as the tow vehicle.

You're welcome - I'm a huge Flying Dutchman fan and have a m***ive collection - but not everything - of FD stuff. When the Vander Woude's moved to Kansas City in the late '60s their first shop was about 1/2 mile from my home and just down the street from **** Harrell's shop. The two teams did a lot of testing at KCIR and I hung out there a lot. Al did a lot of "appearances" at Mopar shows in KC and that's where I first met him. I was a mechanic and clutch monkey on their 2000 Avenger flopper.

I was told John Ode and couple of guys from the Manitowoc Wisconsin area owned and ran the Flying Dutchman one season. The 64 Fury pulling the trailer may have been John Odes, John used this car to build his own drag car and called Blue Blood. Got Pictures of Blue Blood the day John brought it home new from the dealership and a later picture with slicks on with the Manitowoc group showing off that days Trophy's on Washington street.
I think they were going for a beer after racing :D
