OK, those were ALL kool @Moriarity and they were all quads, but not all were canted ... for sake of accuracy, and in case there's any newbies that aren't sure what canted is.

EDIT, looking back at the OP, I see each type of quads were intended to be covered, Canted AND horizontal AND vertical.

The Jade Idol has one of my favorite sets of custom headlights.

  13. That's not the original Jade Idol. That's a 57 Ford. Here's the original. I agree though, one of the best.

My friend John Ware's 57 he bought it new, drove out to Oklahoma for the nationals in '58 and customized it himself in '59. He's gone now but his son still has it and intends to pass it to his son.

Although not canted, the quad headlights are cool, along with some other great traditional kustom touches. The back bumper doesn't do the car any favors ... almost looks like a late model pick-up or van bumper.

Kool history with the car. Glad it still exist and is staying in the family.

The Idol has come across my path a couple times. First, I have always loved that bugger, and I'm not keen on "fogged" paint. When the Dream Truck came home from Starbird's jail, it was in a double deck enclosed trailer. Above the Truck was the Jade Idol. Turns out it leaked fluid which saturated the bed cover, which had to be remade. All was well though, when I got to drive the Idol around my neighborhood.....
The best memory was during a conversation with Sam Foose, a dear friend for many years. The subject of the Jade Idol came up, and Sam broke out laughing. Seems he was not only present, but participated in the first Idol paint job. The paint booth had a table at one end for mixing paint, and holding a couple big 'ol jugs of hooch... Gene and Sam would take a shot of courage, mix equal amounts of color, and make a pass from front to back to front. Take a little shot, mix a little paint, and repeat. I not sure if they were done when the paint ran out, the booze ran out, or they ran out....
I still miss the times I spent sitting with Sam and talking old times.....

What seemed like it should be an easy task turned out to be a mutha..... When I bought my '58 it already had a '57 front clip installed. But, I like the quads on the '58, but not the grille. Turn race day.jpg s out, all those people who made the change way back when have my profound respect. I think the result was exactly what I wanted, but the road was rough... Also, as you can see, my Watson styled '58 went through a little course deviation in route. It also had Bonneville taillights.
