  1. I dunno man , I’ve owned and driven around in a lot of four doors . If it was just me and the boys my “ sword “stayed in my pants pointing south .

Aye , not that there’s anything wrong with that but ….. well ……… I dunno if I wanna go on that camping trip with ya anymore :D

  3. If somebody will pick me up in a 50’s-60’s four door i’ll ride around all day, hell i’ll even pitch in for gas. I’ll probably never own one tho.

I cruised a 4 door Olds Dynamic 88 with a 394 4bbl most of the way through high school. I hung around with some big buddies, they didn't mind cruising around in my 4 door Olds, and even with 4 big dudes, the 394 in the 4 door Olds was respected.

When we had a couple kids, a 4 door mad life much better.

On the dirt track in the hobby class, the 4 door cars had much better balance and were tougher cars.

Most kids just getting their drivers license have never seen a 2 door car except at car shows, so the hate for the 4 doors no longer exists among the younger crowd. That is probably the main reason the hobby is still afloat, all you old grumpy men are hanging onto the 2 door cars, so all that they can afford are 4 door cars.

As you grumpy old men are dying off the hate for the 4 door cars is dying with you. That is probably not a bad thing.

Grandkids think “Poppy” is cool! Think they like the extra doors! Because of that - so do I! BE9DBB61-C861-4865-BCC5-D0C51BDB6A9B.jpeg D21AF432-74BB-4DD0-807C-B77B46E0B200.jpeg

    Agreed.

    I wouldn't mind owning a '64 Ford Galaxie 4 door hardtop XL.

I've owned both, 2 and 4 door, a 2 door has the ''cool'' factor, but some of us have to take what's available..
It's easy for you guys in the USA to argue about preferring a 2 door over a 4 door car for a rod/cruiser, whatever..
Here in New Zealand going back in time, from the late 20's to the mid 60's when cars from America were imported to sell, the majority were 4 door family sedans, (a few were coupes)..
So now, in this day and age, if we're lucky enough to discover a ''garage/barn find'' 9 times out of 10 it's a 4 door, and if that's the case it'll get rodded, no questions asked..

Looks like having two doors makes us old farts.

  13. I saw a great 4 door in high school one day. It was a 52-54 ford with all the door handles filled, sat looooooooooow with wide whites and Dodge Pioneer 4 bar caps....nosed and decked and it had a dark green semi gloss paint job. Dual pipes out the back and it was said it had a 390 in it. It was really cool!

Four door wagons are cool. The suicide door Lincolns too. And Chevy Fleetlines. And Jon Hall’s Ardun powered ‘32 Fordor absolutely rocks. If I had a ‘30’s or ‘40’s four door, I think I’d paint it like a taxi and just drive it.

But, I sure have been having fun driving my four door Buick while still alive.

As said 4 doors, depending on make/year and built right, can be as bitchn' as anything else.
    Some 32's:

An old school 4 door is way more cool than a new school 2 door anything. And 2 doors are such a pain for a family or you want to take friends with you. The whole 4 doors are only parts cars thing is just brain dead stupid.

Cool car. Though I reckon a twin carb, twin pipe six would be way more cool.

I thought the OP was going to suggest rolling down all the windows on a winters day....

Back in the days of my youth it was customary for one of the hoodlums in our group to own a 4 door. It was needed just in case we had to attend a rumble on the other side of town. Six guys and four doors would allow us to all quickly exit the car on arrival while it was still rolling. A dramatic entrance would be half the battle if this scenario ever did take place, but never did. lol
Other than that we always said "nice car, too bad its a 4 door". That was just the teenage mindset of the times for the most part but one of my favorite cars in my neighborhood was a really cherry 4 door 56 Ford.

    Hello,

It was 1958 and my brother had just purchased a new 58 Chevy Impala. It was a two door model with 280 hp and a 3 speed trans. We tried several ways to customize it with new, different rims and wheel covers. But, in the process, the hubcaps had to be taken off at the drags, so that look was the “in way” for most to drive their cars.

Our friends had a new 56 Chevy 4 door hardtop and it was the family car. They did not like the stock look with the big hubcaps, so they repainted the wheels and got small round hubcaps to start their customizing. They were limited due to the 4 door car being the family car.

The one thing the Impala had was when the windows were all rolled down, it was a very cool hardtop and looked cool to boot.

But, when our friend’s 56 Chevy 4 door hardtop had its windows rolled down, it took the prize for the largest opening for a hardtop vs. any two door sedan. In the days of no A/C, the open windows gave the most cooling for the occupants. Sure, the Impala was cool driving around with the the windows down. With the small wind wing windows twisted and the vents open, it was cool inside, too. But, the same was had, plus more on the 56 Chevy 4 door hardtop with all of the windows down, vents open and the air flowing everywhere.

The custom thing to do was to shave off the rear door handle and match the paint color. Then the whole 4 door car looked like a huge two door open air sedan. The trend still goes on during these more modern days, too…YRMV

There is practically nothing more embarrassing than rolling up to rumble in a two door and the driver and right-side passenger getting their asses kicked before they ever get out of the car. Made it real hard for the rest of us to look intimidating ;).

This isn't my car, but its the exact same type of 57 Plymouth, 4 door, I had when I was a kid in high school, it was my first car, same color as you see here.
Good running 318, typewriter transmission, and there was never any complaints, about it having 4 doors when it came to cruising around with my friends.
