I know how you feel Root, yesterday we had our third hurricane in three months. Luckily this one was far enough east that we didn't loose electricity. We were out 8 days in August and 5 days in September. But we were still blessed. So many had it so much worse. As you said I am about done with 2020!
The weather certainly threw a wrench into the plans. My friend in Amarillo had the same ice storm, that city was shut down for three days. He didn't lose power though, but everything in town was closed. Roadster sure looks nice, you will work out the issues with the noises and leaks. Especially since now the time crunch is gone.
Well, not exactly. I have been gone the better part of the summer traveling for work. I have everything back together, but I developed a rear main seal leak or an oil pan leak. Pretty bad one. The interior is laying upstairs in the newly built upholstery shop, and I am trying to stay home long enough to get it stitched up. I bought a new Juki sewing machine to help move things along. I added a window unit thinking I would be able to cool the uph shop down during the summer. Haven’t even turned it on this year. Haven’t been home long enough. The generator was throwing sparks off the comm so I am thinking it needs brushes. Maybe this fall things will calm down and I can actually stay home for a few months. I did walk by it yesterday on my way to get the lawnmower out. It’s still there….albeit covered in dust.
Root, I think you ‘ll like the Juki. My Wife does the majority of her quilting on hers and it has served her well. Can’t wait to see your results!
Yeah, I had a 60 year old Pfaff I was working with and it was just pissing me off more than anything.
I sure hope your roadster is all back together and running good before you decided to tear into your kitchen remodel.... So, what are the plans? I am going to redesign the seat and reupholster. It has a metal bar that will surely break our backs if we ever get into a collision. I'll just do a quick refresh on the paint. Shouldn't take a couple days to do. I'll spray it when the motor tranny is out to fix second gear. Rebuild the carbs and call it good. I don't want the car down for very long.
It’s back together, it has an oil pan leak and the seats need upholstered. I have the door panels and kick panels ready to go. I didn’t really have the option of not doing the remodel, for to the damage caused by the tornado. I will get back on it soon. Little derail today. Found out I have COVID today. I finally found a test I could pass….
Hadn’t seen this thread or car and saw you mention it in another post. Wow! What a killer roadster. I love this thing.
That means mandatory quarantine in the shop for 10 days, right? Seriously, Chris, take care of yourself & get well.
Great thread, missed it the first time around. So the upholstery guy never actually did the seats? That sucks. Very cool car though, the re-do looks really good. Take care and be careful, COVID is no joke.
That's what I thought when I got it...first thing I did was cut the hell out of my thumb with a Forstner drill bit. Shop time + COVID brain = danger!
It’s been a while since I posted. We have had a lot happen. Our house got hit by a tornado and the forced remodel ensued. That’s all done now and we are trying to shift gears and get things off of the to do list. The roadster is first, since it is the closest to being finished. We got mad when our interior guy flaked out and bought a commercial machine. You can read about that craziness here. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/i-have-freaking-had-it-a-rant-about-people-not-following-through.1213417/ Anyway, we finished our first door panel today. Not the best I have ever seen, but way below average. We are learning and this one is the perfect practice piece.
Below average my foot. That looks perfect. And I don't mean perfect as in top notch, top drawer, A#1 $10,000 frkn "perfect". I think an old style hot rod actually looks kind of odd with a "perfect" interior. I don't think it's meant to be. I think a real hot rod interior should be slightly imperfect. And that's perfect.
BTW. Sounds like you and your wife are one kick-ass team. That's really cool. Let's hear it for the wives! Hoorah!
