This was taken in May 1965 at the Double H Drag Strip in Blue Ridge, Ga. I think the owner was Ed Ward, out of Kentucky (from memory, not so reliable these days). Photo by Ronnie Evans.

Saw that but I figured they were campaigning 2 cars since it's still color me gone.

Your thought of it being in KY makes sense, it says it was the track champ at US 60 in Hardinsburg.

Yes, it was during the 1965 season when Nascar banned the Hemi for being too dominant.

The ex color me gone turned mr norms factory afx piloted by gary dyer. Car ran an 8.63 on nitro methane in late 65 and turned the world on its head.

The Don Hutton/Jim Pugh car was a tough one. Judging by the background of these pics, looks like a good race was shaping up. Here's the car racing the Strip Teaser Thunderbolt at Maryville, TN.

You can see the car race here (plus "Mr. Plymouth" Robert Nance, also pictured on this page)

Later, they had an AWB Valiant (photo by the legendary Marty Johnson).

I know it’s all history now and how the super stocks evolved but when the wheelbases shortened so the front of rear wheels were almost to the front doors it all started to lose me. Loved the original super stocks and even some of the 2% cars. Spent many a night at Detroit Dragway for the big S/S events when all the big names were there (Ramchargers, Color me Gone, Golden Commando's, etc.) really the heyday of relatable drag racing for the average hot rodder. That and the gas classes. Life goes on. I can appreciate the modern technology but really don’t enjoy the funny cars of today the super stocks evolve to. This is really a great thread.
