I finally decided to change the blue cut pile carpet, that my dad put in his car in the 1980s, with black closed loop carpet. I only need 3 yards of 40" wide carpet but I am having problems finding a supplier that will sell me just 3 yards. My local trim shop said he cannot get small amounts from his supplier either. He thought there may be a carpet shortage and that the suppliers are saving their stock for molded carpet manufacturers. Anyone have a source for automotive carpet that will sell by the yard?
Try Ceja Auto Upholstery Supplies 662-566-8776 I just ordered upholstery and carpet from them - 3 yards - not sure if they have exactly what you’re looking for but possibly - good luck
I've been using this stuff from Walmart, I've been really happy with it and it's available in different sizes. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstay...UwLGCk_LjE_eJp3HKCwaAsnMEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
And I have done that and the first three places that I tried said they had the carpet in stock; one canceled the order after taking it and two refused to accept the order. I was hoping that someone who had ordered some carpet recently would pass on where they got it from.
ACC sells molded carpets, but it may be possible they also sell it by the yard. It's not listed on their website but you could give them a call.
ACC was one of the first places I checked in to. They will only sell you 1 linear yard of carpet and only if you buy a molded carpet set.
Miami Corp has a few. https://www.miamicorp.com/search?text=loop pile carpet I know SMS has lots of different ones.
National Fabric in Kansas City? I was just there Friday, but haven`t bought any carpet there lately as I always need carpet 72 inches wide. The time before, a month ago, a guy bought black loop carpet from them for a 40 Willys coupe. ACC started that policy when the pandemic started. That was my go-to place for carpet. I called a place in South Carolina, and their policy was one yard at a time also for 72 inch wide. I had to order from 3 different suppliers to get 3 yards. That was before ACC started the -had to order a molded carpet set to get one yard of roll goods. The 33 Ford I`m doing now, the owner bought his from Menards. It`s more of a large throw rug with being bound around the perimeter.
National Fabric is my "go to" for carpet and under carpet padding. It helps that it's local, so I can walk in and look at the selection.
Try local carpet installers? Black isn't a really popular colour for architectural contract-carpet fitments, but you never know.
Stock interiors is where i got mine for my 39. Very pleased with the quality of it. here is a link to the flat yardage. https://www.stockinteriors.com/flatcarpet.asp?Itemid=4228&ModelId=197
dam i just looked at that link and they say only with a molded carpet and only one yard as well... you could get a 39 molded carpet and yardage if its for the car in your avatar. it would work fine.
You might try I.D.C. Trim & Upholstery in Duncan, South Carolina. They have a huge warehouse and have had everything we needed over the years. HRP I.D.C. 1340 S Danzler Rd Duncan, SC 29334 Tel: (864) 485 0042
I am pretty sure that no molded carpet set will fit my 36 Ford Cabriolet with a 8" channel. I may have found a source for carpet by the yard. I will let everyone know if it actually arrives at my door later this week. I have my fingers crossed.
As a follow up, on their website Albrights Supply in Mississippi said they had the carpet in stock. Before I placed the order I called them to verify that they had it in stock and that they would actually ship me just three yards. The Southern Belle on the phone said that it was in stock and that they would sell just three yards and that they would indeed ship it. I ordered it and it was delivered two days later. Thanks to everyone for the replies and the suggestions. Luckily I was able to find a supplier without having to make a zillion phone calls.
Anyone ever tried to mold the carpet yourselves ?? Steam, heat gun and glue maybe ? 15 year floor guy here... Closed loop "commercial" style carpet is readily available fairly cheap. Id think even a remnant might be enough to do a car. At least cheap enough to experiment with..
Just to piggyback on the Wal Mart carpet idea, that's how I did the carpet the first time in my Chrysler. It wasn't perfect, but no one ever called me out on it either! This was a pair of 5x7 American-made rugs, for a total cost of 80 bucks. I thought it turned out okay.
I just laid it in there and trimmed it up! It was a little back-and-forth and a lot of measuring and trimming to get it close. Where it really got tough was around the gas pedal and transmission tunnel. I didn't have a way to sew up the stitches, so that area was a little butchered. Fortunately it was black carpet and underneath the dash so it wasn't too visible.
