Here’s my 63 impala wagon, had a 327cam was wiped out,etc.. so I swapped a 305in it and possibly planning for bags soon.
Nice car! Love wagons. Save that 327 and rebuild it in the future when funds allow. Then put it back in!! Instead of bagging it you could lower this with lowering blocks int he rear and drop spindles in the front. Much less work and a LOT less money than bags. But, if bags is what you want then go for it. Good luck. P.S. I just noticed you have a 63 GMC truck also. Which vehicle you gonna work on first?
We used to pick up wagons cheaply. I drove a '65 Belair for years. The issue was rust being in NY. Very hard to find one without major league cancer.
Nice wagon!!! I may or may not have been conceived in one just like it, only it was like a champagne color. Welcome to the HAMB!
I drove the wheels off of a 63 Bel-Air for 11 years. They are low enough, I bottomed out on every piss ant in the road. Factory saggy springs.
Lowville1 by 1pickup posted Sep 1, 2020 at 10:53 PM Here's my old '63 BelAir, parked in front of the "Lowville" town hall. probably sold it too cheap, but you can't keep 'em all. Was a dual carbed 230 / pg. Crazy leopard print interior. Caddy hubcaps. Damn, I miss that car.
I love wagons, yet hate bags=fake low to me.. Real low = about 4in. to 5 or what your roads limit you too. Wagons are max cool too me. Have fun.
I worked for a tire store in high school...this was a time when we swapped peoples snow tires around. I remember 14x7's on wagons. I used a pair to mount recapped cheaters for my buddies '67 Chevelle. Gene.
On my '65, it was around 1980 and I decided to put springs in it. 409 wagon units out back and big blocks up front... a mile high. Took 2 coils out of those and it handled like a Lotus.
Yes, I remember going through junk yards up on rt.28 north past Ford City. I noticed the wheels on a 62 Chevy wagon seemed deeper and sure enough they were 7" X 15". The vents also seemed smaller. Some had no vents. There wheels were all made by Kelsey Hayse.
Kelsey Hayes made a lot of the old Chevy rally wheels too. I have seen their logo on Ford wheels too. I never saw a 15" factory wheel on a Chevy wagon, but I do need to get out more.
@Jeremy P Mine was bagged. Was super easy install. No cutting of spring pockets. Bought cups made for the car. Mounted the tank/compressor in the footwell of the third seat, as I didn't have the seat anyway. Everybody loved it. I'd do it again. But I'm a young guy, almost 60 years old. So, not anti-bags like these old farts around here.
I'm definitely not an old fart. I think bags are cool but I won't do them on my rides because static suspension is reliable and has less failure points.. There's nothing to leak, and additionally it always looks good. A lot of air suspension installs don't consider how it looks at ride height. Sure it looks cool aired down, but if the car looks like a dog in mid-hump when it's going down the road, that's no bueno for me. I prefer my cars to look cool all the time, not just aired down. It can cause issues with wheel fitment so when you're at ride height they're way in and that isn't the look I like.
