Very cool Suspect my neighbours are going to love me as much as yours... my chassis came home this month: Cheers, Harv
It was a combination Dale, but the majority was done by him with a little help and guidence from Roseville Rod and Custom, his skills really impressed me as he is an ex cop but does fine workmanship.....He has done a few harleys that are over the top also....
Well Eli if I charged by the hour I couldn't sell one. Since this a home casting set up I'm just casting em one at a time for use at Eagle Field drags and the racers and Flathead Cars there at this time, if it ever changes I'll let you know........
Well hot damn, what a great day at the Sac Autorama met a lot of great people had a blast showing off the Flat Fed, put a lot of young kids in it and their folks got a lot of great pics. Met some people that brought back memories from my youth at Half Moon Bay Drags and earlier. Got to have a great conversation with Ronnie Roadster of HAMB Fame to top off the day, yep a great day to pass off some Eagle Field Fliers and talk Flatheads to those would listen. Yes Flatheads are alive and living in Sacramento, yep not bad for an old fart!!!!
I love the sound of a flathead 8 and it must have been music to the ears to those attending. Cool beans!
Ok just 14 more getups till Eagle Field come and join us for a weekend of fun if you have a flathead or 6cylinder race car the Flathead -6Cyl Clash will run sat qualifying 2 runs, and maybe some eliminations on to sunday bracket style racing so everyone has a chance !!!!!
well after a lot of consternation, cussing, cajoling, and contempt had to remove the Holly and put the Edelbrock back on now, now for some test and tune dates and time to reset the Edelbrock as I have lost all my old timing info, or can't find it anyway, so its back to square one, seems normal Huh?????
Well fuck here we go again, went to the opening of Mendota drag strip on the 12th. She backfired an blew another blower gasket, said this sucks went home and decided to get down to all this consternation. Well to make a short story long, I did a compression check and the left bank was zero! Oops time to get to the bottom of this. Head is now shit either have to reweld it or modify another head I have for chamber size. See pics
The reason you blew the head gasket is because the cylinders were pushing fuel into one another - with the intake open on one, it had to go someplace . . . and it popped the blower gasket. It sure looks like you were a bit lean to me, given the color of all your valves (especially toward the front on the engine). That is not uncommon on these old style blower setups as the fuel tends to be pushed to the back of the blower. In modern competition blowers the discharge/outlet is way up front (to help combat this issue). Of course, most competition setups run injectors - with one set of down-nozzles in the ports to help with fuel distribution. Are you running alky or gas? It might be time to think about moving over to alky - runs a lot cooler and has a much wider tuning window than blown gas. Blown gas is one of the hardest things you can run (as far as tuning). Also, what type of head gaskets are you running? You might think about the MLS Cometic gaskets - all steel and I would think they'd hold up a lot better than copper or composite gaskets under boost with no o-ring. Singe you don't have an o-ring groove, you really can't run solid copper, so your choices are limited.
Also, there appears to be quite a few cracks in the prior welds in the heads - around plugs, around the blown gaskets in the middle, etc.. My guess is that these heads are toast. Hate to say it, but they look like they've about run out of useful life.
