Yes, is that a young Martin Milner riding shotgun? That is Jack Webb driving. What movie?

    A BIG THANKS !!!

    Hello,

Since my wife had grown up in the OKC and then relocated finally to California in 1956, she too had a good recollection of her family’s lifestyle and history. Not only that, but has a sister that remembers what my wife had forgotten. They both see things differently and stories are just hilarious. So, add that to my own So Cal upbringing since 1946 and we have a ton of things to remember and enjoy throughout our time together for 57 years.

My wife’s great grandfather lived in Tampa back in the early 40s, after moving from the OKC during that time period. What a small world.

A lot of people have said that So Cal is a cuckoo place. For some, it is. But, for those that have still stayed in the general region, like us, it was a good place to grow up and get involved. We still have some old high school friends that live in the same area we all used to cruise and hang out during the summers. But, for my wife and me, we have moved on to different portions of So Cal to extend our adventures and simple lives.

We have moved quite a bit, but that was a part of adapting to the current family climate and changes. When something happens, we tried to adapt to the situation. familiar surroundings make the changes easier and it just happened to make us move on in our adventures. We did not just stay in one place. Dinky apartment, small house in the coastal area, larger family house just a few miles inland and so on until we have finally found a place to stay for the final run.

Lucky for us, our son liked New York City on a visit one year and decided it might be a place to live permanently. GAWD! But, after many discussions, the job market and styles of living arrangements, city vs suburbs, we did not have to move across the USA to live nearby. When our granddaughter was born, the discussion about moving out of So Cal was also brought up. Then, we decided that a move might be on the bargaining table.

But, as it worked out, our contributions to taking care of our young granddaughter in So Cal was primary. We are still here, after all of these years. Our granddaughter is considering offers from out of state colleges and might accept one… but, the main offers are in So Cal. So, there is hope yet. 9 months of the year in cold/snow is not what she grew up in and has not envisioned a daily life outside of So Cal. A few weeks of visits to friends out of state has slightly opened her eyes to those places. Not quite eyes wide open, but it is a possibility.

Thank you for enjoying our So Cal history as we enjoyed those early times and even up to this pandemic causing problems all over. So, we will continue to live where we are and take local road trips to make ourselves feel better about where we are, like we have been doing.

With the blue ocean just down the street, a mild climate for those outside walks and just hanging around anytime, just make it worthwhile. We have never been “garage queens” and our cars have always hit the road with a fervor in the road trips back then and up to the pandemic starting.

Our way of thinking is to be able to adapt to any situation and make do with what you have.
