So I've been waiting for the fuel line fittings for my carbs. They came in the mail yesterday and I put them on. They fit good , look good, the time is now to start this thing. I put a jumper wire on the fuel pump and filled the carbs and looked for obvious leaks....seems good. Time to crank , first turn it flashes and keeps running....it's idling! A few adjustments and it seems to be running pretty good. I let it get up to temp and shut it down to tighten any loose nuts or hoses. The rear carb had a small wet spot on the manifold so I checked to see if the jet plugs were loose and gave them a snug. That must have been it.
Satisfied with myself I went in the house. Today I went out and tried to start it cold ....vroom! first crank runs like it should. Shut it down and theres still a little fuel around the back carb. Maybe the inlet is a little loose. I put my wrench on it to give it a snug and SNAP!!! Busted the body of the carb....it had a small crack that I didn't see....you can see the black in the photo. I SAID THE BAD WORD....IF YOU SEE KAY!!!!
So I need a 97 body or whole carb. It was nickle plated and looked really good DAMMIT!
Gonna have a glass of Crown Royal and sulk.....WOE IS ME!

Dang Jeff, that really blows. Sorry for your troubles. I might have an extra parts carb if that helps, but it wouldn't be plated

Hi Scott I can use a good body , my base and airhorn are in good shape . It doesn't matter about the plating....beggers can't be choosy. It's the back carb , you don't see much of it.

That would make a wall hanger I’ve never seen before. You could make up all sorts of stories about how it happened as you were just cruising down the road. ;)

  11. I have a large milk crate full of similar carburetors. Apparently this was a weak area of the carburetor body, or somebody with too much arm power.

Isn't every part now available in a "new and improved" way? Not sure what a bare body would cost but its worth a look since that's an Achilles heel. Might need to top off that Crown Royal...to celebrate?

Well bugger! With the HAMB this will soon turn into a minor inconvenience. Good luck...

  19. You could wittle and glue a piece of plexiglass over the hole then sell it at the next swap meet as having the "very rare float window for ease of setting float level" option. :rolleyes:o_O

If the post creator does not require some of your main bodies, I need some to replace the one that came off my coupe due to a stripped thread in the needle and seat hole, which, under he electric fuel pump pressure gushed fuel all over the header in my coupe until I managed to turn off the pump, and close the fuel tap when it stalled in traffic 2 weeks ago

When you said it broke I thought that it was just where the fitting screwed in for some reason. Wow, ya that's just a little bit worse. That sucks! Someone's going to have a nickel plated desk lamp build thread soon I think.
