It's nice when the Banger meets just roll from one to the other.
Out of interest can anyone tell me what model these carbs are, or what to look for. I believe they are Riley's???

Ok thankyou. I haven't laid eyes on them but may have the opportunity to buy them.
How many types of Winfield are there?

This web site may provide some basic information regarding Winfield’s. Pay attention to the bowl type, updraft or downdraft.

One month to go and the speedster bits arrive. Sent the mag out for an overhaul. Working on the garage organizing.

Winfield Model S, look like size A barrels. The idle screw location indicates downdraft bowls, but unable to identify bowl size without measurements or serial numbers. They appear to be a nice set of carbs, any idea why are they coming off…?

FYI, here are my flow estimates for the S/SR carbs

I`m still here - cracking on with the coupe ,axle built and installed ,fuel tank and filler installed , battery holder made, proper handbrake built with custom cables from "speedy cables" ,exhaust started and a jig made to complete it this week ,front "bumper" started(made from brake cross tube)Interior sewn up(by the missus)-it was made from the ancient old leather sofa I had in my caravan that cost 1p (delivered) on ebay and we got to sit on it for 6 years too!

checking in, with the news that I am still collecting parts for updating my coupe to make it easier to drive in city traffic.

how ever, I need to get it going again. I went on the 13th Annual Black Forest Run a couple of weeks ago, and make it 35 or so miles from my house on the solo return journey, and the shit hit the fan.

The motor stalled in traffic, and on inspection fuel was gushing out of the needle and seat area on the 97 - all over the header. Luckily I averted a fire. The needle and seat threads stripped out of the carbie, and allowed fuel to run freely. The coupe got a ride home, and I bought a new 97 for it. That didn't go smoothly, as when I got home it was noted that it was incomplete, and the idle screws were screwed in so far that the were ribbed on the taper due to over tightening!!!! So a second trip was made to the hot rod parts shop 30 miles away - and boy do I have school traffic.

anywho, it'll be back on the road soon.

Where would I get one of those exhaust manifolds...I am tired of the exhaust fumes from the stock manifold to pipe interface.

  20. I picked mine up second hand in the midst of time. Bit of a fiddle making stepped washers to clamp it but it’s been good since then. Sammy has them in stock at Arizona Model A.

Thanks so much, will have a good look

Thanks, not sure exactly why they are coming off, but they are putting an original Zenith on in place of the Winfield's. It's on a 30/98 Vauxhall
These are nearly 250ci so I don't know what size they are likely to be.

    It's a OE 30/98 Vauxhall, from the early 20's

I heard that Tom Buttermore closed his shop. Anyone have more info? He seemed to have some good projects in the works.

  25. Dan,
nothing official, it appears some of the tooling went to Ferguson.
I guess the writing was on the wall when Terry started delivering motors.

  26. Don Snyder ended up with the patterns and tooling I believe and was looking to sell it all.

  27. Not sure how it came about, Ferg has posted ads of the exhaust and Thomas head for sale.
In any event, it is a loss for the community, knowledge and products.

I had a similar thing happen to me years ago. I had a pair of single barrel stromburgs on my banger, the night before the exhaust was glowing, the next morning 200m from church it stopped running properly & found fuel pouring over the cold exhaust, scary times! In my case I was carrying a spare carb & swapped bowls over on side of the road.
    Glad you escaped an inferno!
