Gene Winfield built the Pacifica Econoline for the Ford Custom Caravan but it wasn't as radical. And interestingly enough, two of the Deora's signature features were pulled from Ford. The 'windshield' was the rear window/frame from a '60 Ford full-size wagon (and probably a chunk of the roof too), and the 'side exhausts' used '65 Mustang taillight bezels as it's outlets.
I always preferred the looks of the 1957 / 58 Ford Nucleon concept. Would be pretty cool if someone would build a full size version, even if they had to resort to internal combustion for power. If this is too far OT, feel free to delete it. Ford did put together a Deora inspired concept in '73, oddly enough named the Explorer.
It looks like the acid test is what kind of interior access you develop; trying to retain the original doors is a huge obstacle to getting it low and sleek. Not sure what the DMV would have to say about flip-up gates on the front....
I liked how the truck Ian did for Jack turned out that is pictured in the third post. Unfortunately it sat outside by victors for the last 8 years and it is getting really rough looking.
Those darn door window openings look like a real chore to modify to follow any kind of lowered style... no wonder the Deora didn't have side gl***.
Always liked it, even built a model of it as a kid. 2 problems that I seen as far as it being a driver is 1- the pop open front, what the heck would you have done if you were in a front end accident? How you gonna get out!? 2- if you were in a front end accident you didn't have a whole lot of protection in front of ya ! But I'd still drive it ! Occasionally .

Has anybody heard from Jack? Heard Ian say that he moved to Chicago on one of the shows, hope all is well with him. Guess he couldn't take the truck with him...
"Has anybody heard from Jack? Heard Ian say that he moved to Chicago on one of the shows, hope all is well with him. Guess he couldn't take the truck with him..." Sorry to bring bad news Jack p***ed away Feb. 11 2022. Ian is on youtube now and mentioned we (Victor and Ian?) will bring this truck back to life. Pretty sad shape right now sitting outside . Ian's three wheeler is also rotting in Victors backyard too. If anyone want to see the current condition look Ian up and watch the part 2 episode of him going thru what him and Victor built together and he takes you out back and shows Jack's truck.
AHA. the simplest way to deal with the odd window openings is black paint! I'd like to see more of Ian's truck if possible
We do realize that if we don't start getting young people involved, this hobby will be dead soon, right? Your 32 Ford that you have priced at $75k won't be worth a grand, because nobody will want it. Jack was one of few, and soon we'll all follow!! (OK enough of my scare tactics, Jack was awesome and I didn't know he had p***ed away, I truly hate hearing that.)
There's more young folk in this **** than we know. Cliques exist in every venue. And besides, who wants to hang with a buncha ½ crippled old fux like us? Ok, "speak for yourself" applies but making a point. I regularly hang with a fellow HAMB member 20yrs younger than me. Met a guy a couple years ago in his 30s doing a wild psychedelic Model A coupe. See a lot of younger dudes walking Hershey every year. We're ok, just don't **** on em when they ask the same silly questions we used to. And yes, point them in this direction to see topics like this. Loved the Deora, saw it when it was new. I was 11. I hope both of our points are taken in the happy spirit they were given.
1/2 crippled old ****s have the coolest **** and know the most, you don't have to be the smartest guy around, just surround yourself with them
