I'm sure it is. It sounds great. I assume it's more mid to upper RPM power focused. Any idea of the horsepower/torque numbers?
It has no trouble getting to 3000 rpm. I'm trying to keep the Rs down till it has 500 -600 miles on it. The T5 lets me get spirited without getting much over 2200 rpm. It still pulls hard @ 3500. In 5th it's spinning 2000 @ 70mph. I'm thinking HP @ 170. .
Certainly great to see it running Dan and whats more you are someone who has run many banger so you are someone we know can evaluate this motor and give us some straight up no bull dust opinions on itand the mods you are doing to it. Unfortunately they have just found a bowel tumour in me and I am waiting for the knife but keep up your posting and give me plenty to look at as I recover Cheers Dan respect for your work take it on a few runs and give us heaps of pics and info. Respect to Burtz as well for producing these blocks.
Sorry to hear @RussTee hang in there, I look forward to hearing how the new engine goes @Crazydaddyo such a sweet lil pickup with an angry sounding banger
Sorry to hear that you have some health challenges ahead. Keep a positive outlook and you will get trough them. .
I’m in a similar boat - signed up to run at Pendine so I have some miles to clock up before then. Luckily it’s a 300 mile drive to the beach anyway…!
RussTee, Yes, agree Dan is one of the more reliable sources of information and I hope will continue. Sorry to hear about med condition, concentrate on recovery with a few banger distractions, prayers from us all. J
Had to machine down the new B thrust washer, added some oil grooves to it and chamfered the leading edge to hopefully not wipe the oil film. Top one is the stock one for the B motor that they are selling. Here we are with the 34 trans rebuilt, clings adapter etc... And installed on the mounts and torque tube attached in 20 min.
B is pressurized mains only, and rods are splash... Cold I get 10 psi at high idle, low idle 6. I did a few things to the oil pump, polished the plate where the gears ride against and got the grooves out, sealed that up also so we will see if it does better.
stubbs- sounds like you have a stock B oiling system rather than a true pressure system to the mains. Do you know if the oil passage from the oil galley into the area behind the cm gear has been plugged. Is there any kind of pressure relief valve on the motor? just wondering, given your reported oil pressure numbers.
Those of you that use this header may have an interference problem when trying marry a Weber intake to this type cast iron exhaust manifold. On one of my engines I used a no name cast header and a no name weber intake system purchased from one of the parts retailers. It took a considerable amount of time to grind away on each to get them to mate to the block . Just FYI !
Congratulations!! Best to all. names.... If a Boy, Ed is appropriate, as in Winfield. If a little Girl, Daddy has a shotgun and a backhoe, hands OFF!! J
Any tips for cam break-in on my banger? Fighting a couple carb float issues. But hope to get it taken care of tomorrow
I scored this Zenith today, up draft, dual 1 3/16" throats, it's frozen up but will look at freeing it up, I just think it will end up on my banger
Hi to all! I enjoy seeing all that you are doing. I've got a cam question as I plan and gather parts for my engine build. I've got a Cyclone head and intend on building an insert bearing engine with at least the mains fully pressurized. Would a Stipe 350 cam be a good choice or should I go 340? It will remain a B transmission and can't see going any less than 3.54 in the differential. My truck is going to be driven daily in season and would hope to drive it 100 or more miles on a weekend cruise, frequently.
I have a Stipe 340 in this one and would have gone bigger if I could have. Bill quit making cams and Tony was not building any, so I purchased mine slightly used. Not sure if they are back in production. If it's just daily driver a 340 would be fine. I would like to find a larger cam for the race engine for my roadster.
Thanks for the reply. It looks like I can get one but I'd like to go with a 350 assuming it's not troublesome for daily driving.
Yeah its open passage to cam gear but the size of that hole is smaller than the mains so it restricts for sure compared to the A open hole to cam gear. No pressure relief valve at all.
If anyone is holding a 2x2 equalizer or Riley downdraft intakes I am in the market. Going to probably sell my Zepher and Burns. Or can do some trading.
I like to do it as soon as you can after getting it running. Make sure you have a good operating fan and it wouldn't hurt to have a back up house fan handy to blow air through the radiator. I like to start the engine get it running smoothly and bring it up to 1800 - 2000 rpm and hold it there for @ 15 min. .
