That engine sure is clean inside.

As for Ford using up old parts in later years, we got a lot of that in Canada.
Non-synchro first gear three speeds behind sixes and 260s in 1964, and of course the Flathead lasted until 1954 here.

  2. Was just Rereading your post when it hit me..I just ordered non-adjustable ones..it was 10 dollars so no big deal..
Where can I get a set??
Also I read that there could be different sizes

Take the bent pushrod out, roll it on a flat surface and tweak it straight with a soft mallet till it rolls straight. I did this approximately 500 passes ago with the engine in my avatar and it's still going strong. If you believe I don't give it a pizzling have a look on the HA/GR forum where I post videos.

I like to roll pushrods on a pane of glass. It makes it very easy to see any discrepancies.

You said it was new gas...but was it in a clean tank and lines? If you put new gas in an old tank, I'll guarantee that there was varnish in that tank that got reliquified with the new gas. Essentially it's a glue. I've had it happen twice. Never again. All this assumes it wasn't a tight guide from improper machining...but if it looks like it ran for any period of time..id say it was varnish in the fuel system. The way it happened to you is exactly how it's happened to me. You get something running thats been parked for years...engine runs great. You shut it down and try to restart it after the engine cools off or the next day or two and the engine is cold. What happened in the meantime is that the varnish glued that valve (or valves) open when the engine cooled off.

That head has hardened exhaust valve seats so is good with unleaded gas, and has the large valves.
It was used on both 200 and 250 engines.
It probably has a large chamber though, unless it's been skimmed.

That is, I believe, the second highest flowing head they ever made for the small 6.

There are different lengths for the 144-200, and the 250.

There are, in the 144-200 group ball-ball, and ball-cup pushrods, for non-adjustable, and adjustable rockers, respectively.

Other lengths are for accommodating aftermarket cams, small base circle regrinds, etc.

I will check my stash tomorrow. I might have some.

The part number for for ball-cup pushrod is MELLING MPR81.

    The alternate is SBI 1901280.

I will check the bins when I get back to the shop at the end of the day.

It is a large chamber head, but it is not on an early block.

The head is from 1977, and the block is from 1978.

Since part numbers were carried to the next revision, this could have been a factory-matched combo.

Chambers and pistons changed in 1969.

This head is indeed the second-highest flowing head that Ford produced, with the only difference between this one, and the top is a larger log.

I have a full set of ball-cup pushrods, and RockAuto has them sold as singles, if straightening it does not work out.

  20. I didn't find them on rock auto.
Found a pair on speedway, mine are about 8" so I bought the 7.890 from speedway..
I tried to straight it out but the neck was too bent and the lip of the cup damaged.
    Thanks for the offer tho

I could see trying to straighten a pushrod if it was Sunday and you had to be at work the next day. But maybe 20 bucks to your door and install it next weekend is the route I’d take.

  23. I swear this van is cursed..its been fighting me all the way..
I ordered the wrong pushrods from rockauto using my paypal,it was only 14 bucks no big deal.
    They never showed up.

I bought a couple of AN heater fittings from Jegs store on eBay. Tracking number never worked, apparently fedex screwed the label up and put a new one on without telling anybody or issuing a new tracking number. After two weeks, I contacted Jegs through eBay and got a refund. Six weeks later, fedex delivered the original fittings! Nobody could find them, then suddenly they were delivered. Didn’t need them by then, I had ordered two from Summit and they were delivered the next day.

Are you paying attention to the ship address that PayPal put’s up automatically? For me it’s like a slot machine and never know which address will pop up. I have to scroll and pick an address to be sure where stuff ends up.
