Technical What are you working on?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 18, 2022.

  1. Disassembled the '87 AOD and waiting for upgraded parts and a rebuilding kit. Notice the broken belleville spring, the notch worn into the drive shell and the rust spots on the intermediate clutch steels. I was surprised that the frictions and bands were in excellent shape and no other wear issues were evident. There's probably stuff I'm missing since I've never rebuilt an automatic transmission before but I'm hoping better replacement parts, a rebuild kit and careful (!!!!) reassembly will result in a stout transmission. I've got a '77 351W that I rebuilt recently to hook it up to. I'll need a new radiator, a separate transmission coo IMG_2270.JPG IMG_2271.JPG IMG_2272.JPG IMG_2273.JPG ler and a lot of luck to get me to a start up maybe this year.

I should have the seal protectors for that style transmission if you need to barrow them.

Give me some ideas, everything is gone as far as trim. I wanna cover this hole and finding shit for this car is impossible. Don't wanna just weld a piece of metal over it. It's about 4.5", need to come up with something, possibly something with a Chevy emblem on it? 20230412_164621.jpg 20230412_164637.jpg

That appears to be a 16-gallon Pony Car tank.

When low-mounting like that, you may be able to use a 22-gallon one. It rises up from the pinch-weld seam, to make the extra volume, and is otherwise the same below it.

If that one is too tall, there is a shorter 20-gallon one.

I have the 22-gallon one in my '60 Falcon, it bolts-in to that entire model-line too.

I'm sure Scotty and I could come up with a fine emblem....but you have to promise to put it on:D

  14. Yes! Thank you for the offer. I'm southwest of Belton. I'll be happy to cover shipping here and back to you. Do you have much experience with these transmissions? If so, I probably need to chat with you for a few minutes or so.

Yeah man, Kentucky mustang restoration parts is close to me. All I seen was the 16 gallon! Which I'm happy to have it, better than the 10 gallon cell I had last year. I was gonna put the tank on top of the sub rails but after I looked at it, I can drop it to the bottom and have room to run the filler back to the original spot, so that's what I did. Hard to beat a new 16 gallon tank with a new sender and hardware for $250. Made in Canada

  23. I put a 19-gallon Mxxxx stainless steel tank in my '29AA and fitted it about the way you did. I've just not figured out how I'll route the filler but there's enough room between the tank and where the bed will be to give me some options.

Do like Moriarty did on his vette . Have the wife make up a pleated upholstered insert to match your seat.

  28. I would stay away from C J Pony parts, they are 2 miles from me. Horrible company, can not keep employees their to save there lives and lots of complaints from all the Mustang guys around here. Just a heads up big guy.

Although, crossed flags on a piece of engine turned aluminum would be slick.
