This has been one of the most informative and entertaining threads ever posted. Although I am sorry to see it end, I am very happy to see the end result.

  2. I have only ever painted a hood and a trunk lid (on their own) with real auto paint (in my home garage), in a single stage that I then wet sanded and polished to a result that I was extremely happy with. So, keeping in mind that I have very limited experience "laying down" real paint and have never used a booth, why am I seeing what looks like a tremendous amount of orange peel in the pictures taken in the booth? Interestingly, the pic in what I assume is your garage, the top of the trunk lid looks glassy smooth.

If that is orange peel that will be sanded out, is it normal to have that much orange peel in paint that was shot in a booth? By "that much" I mean, the amount that seems to be showing in your pictures.

Please keep in mind, this is an honest observation/question and not a dig/joke/or "diss".

I think what you're seeing is the reflection of the corrugated steel ceiling.....
yes. No final cut or buff yet.... but I can guarantee you....very little orange peel,... Im standing in front of it right now.

  5. I figured it had to be something distorting the images taken at the shop. As mentioned, the pic at home has a very clear reflection on it while the body shop pics, as seen on my 32" monitor, appear to show a lot of orange peel which just didn't make sense. Happy the paint turned out well :)

So.. the real story is that my boys tricked me.
The car was supposed to a suede primer look because I just not have the $$$ to go the full Monty...
so..I had no idea..about final finish.
Everyone involved knew and my family..... so the boys gained entry while my wife suggested we go out to dinner...(Cindy left a door open)
The guys came while we were out... and it was all done..

Damn dude...I don't think you have a car there....you have a piece of glass with super high reflectivity. That is going to be super cool going down the road.

Front and rear bumpers on… and the grill… custom trim is next… then all the side glass and fixed quarter glass.
It goes slow due to fact I’m doing it alone.
But I continue to push forward. IMG_4949.jpeg IMG_4936.jpeg

  20. Your own version of Overhaulin'. :) When you consider the effort that goes in to secrets, that makes it special for a lot of people. However, they get to tell the story how they want forever. :) Congrats to all involved. :)

Side glass in doors is half done.Vent windows and all run channels installed.
Side custom trim on and polished up..... next is the headliner, then front and rear glass/stainless install..Building the business man rear tray now....
Upholstery will be done in the fall....
After the initial things mentioned. tune it... DRIVE IT.

Whew! Jeff, this was a HUGE nudge to get me back on my white '54 Ford Coupe!
    (406, B/W '61 4speed, Hurst Comp+, 9"/3.78s.)
Thanks for the engine mount juggle, and the dratted 'Z' bar positioning!
Years ago, I apprenticed for Red Mayfield's Garage, started at 15 in 1967.
Red was a Ford/Mercury specialist, and I learned parts numbers as well as deep repairs on 'Y' Blocks.
Then came the FEs...Amazing the torque Mr. LaRagge's '58 had, (Special Order Police Spl., 352 w/solid tappets)
Red took me for a hair-raising ride in the new Police sleeper... LOL
I was a Ford guy tried and true. Thank you for taking us along. GREAT trip!

    Mike,
Do you have a thread on this car? Sounds like a beast? As for Jeffs '57, I just salivate all over my tee shirt when I see it.:D
